Brazilian Rebeca Andrade was the great sensation of the Gymnastics World Cup, which ended this Sunday (8) in Antwerp-BEL. In total, the Brazilian won five medals in the competition: one gold (individual on vault), three silver (team, individual all-around and floor) and one bronze (individual on beam).

In a world in which the sport is increasingly professionalized (and valued), the question soon arose: on the trip home, in addition to the medals, when will Rebeca Andrade bring money in her luggage?

Adding up the awards, the new Brazilian heroine will receive at least 3,750 Swiss francs (around R$21,000). The largest portion of the prize is for the silver medal in the all-around event: 1,500 Swiss francs (R$8,500). But Rebeca will also win a share of the R$5,600 prize, for the silver medal in the general team competition.

All things considered, Rebeca should “add” her bank account by approximately R$23 thousand, after this splendid performance in the most important gymnastics tournament in the world.

Is that not enough? It's really very little, if we compare it to the mountains of money that football players earn. To transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Saudi Arabia, Neymar received the third highest salary in world football, around 320 million euros (R$ 1.7 billion) for two years.

This means that Neymar earns R$71.5 million per month. That’s R$106.4 thousand per hour of work; or R$ 1,700 per minute, sleeping or awake.

Ah, but what does this have to do with our Rebeca Andrade? Nothing, absolutely nothing, but, by way of comparison, Rebeca's prize of approximately R$23,000 at the World Cup would mean just 13 minutes of Neymar's salary.

Journalist Rachel Sheherazade used her social networks to vent and launch a hint after another edition of Domingo Record. The presenter, who debuted on the network about a month ago, did not hide her dissatisfaction with the criticism regarding the low audience numbers of her attraction.

In a publication, Sheherazade stated that "whoever gets likes on On top of hate, it's not a good thing", suggesting that the same goes for television ratings. The message was perceived as a response to the negative comments that have been circulating since her debut on the Sunday program.

On social media, many internet users understood the presenter's speech as an indirect dig at fellow presenter Celso Portiolli, who runs Domingo Legal on SBT. The talk show is Rachel's main competitor on Sunday afternoons and has maintained a solid second place in ratings, consolidating itself as unbeatable in the time slot.

Sheherazade's statement came shortly after an episode in which she would have mocked her former broadcaster, SBT, where she worked for several years. The gaffe happened precisely on the day of Matheus Ceará's debut in the Sunday magazine, a fact that also generated comments among the public.

DEFEAT IN THE AUDIENCE

Domingo Legal, once again, surpassed Domingo Record with a significant difference. According to the numbers released, Celso Portiolli's program reached the mark of 6 audience points, while Sheherazade's program had an average of around 3.4 points.

The main agenda of the Record edition was the press conference by comedian Matheus Ceará, who visited the new headquarters of the reality show A Fazenda 2024 and revealed some of the cast, but still failed to attract the necessary attention to beat the competition.

Planet Hemp's lead singer, Marcelo D2, expressed criticism of the ostentatious theme present in trap lyrics, during a press conference at Rock in Rio 2024. The singer, who took to the stage with Planet Hemp last Sunday ( 15/9) and will return to the festival on Saturday (21/9) with a rap project, stated that the excessive appreciation of luxury and success in music of the genre can be a "trap" for young artists.

< Marcelo D2 was emphatic in his opinion about the recurring theme in trap: "I think it's all shit. This movement nowadays among younger kids, I think there's something that bothers me a little in this new generation, which is ostentation , I think it's a f*cked up trap." The musician warned that the reality of most favelas is still far from what is portrayed in the lyrics, emphasizing that "the favela has not won, it is still starving, without basic sanitation, without health."
CONTEXTUALIZATION AT ROCK IN RIO

The first day of Rock in Rio this year was dominated by trap, with performances by Brazilian artists such as Orochi, Oruam and Chefin, as well as American rapper Travis Scott. Trap has been gaining more and more space on streaming platforms, often highlighting themes related to luxury and success. However, for Marcelo D2, as long as favelas continue to face challenges such as lack of infrastructure and essential services, the victory speech will be superficial.

IMPORTANCE OF THE COLLECTIVE

D2 also mentioned rapper Emicida as an example of a more collective and less individualistic vision. "The street is us, it's not me", stated D2, reinforcing the idea that the community's true victory will come when all its members benefit, and not just a few. The musician highlighted that individual success does not represent a structural change in the living conditions of the majority.

Brazil ended its participation in the Paris Paralympics this Sunday (8) with its best campaign in the history of the competition. According to the objective established by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, the Brazilian delegation in Paris broke the record for medals in a single edition of the Games, with 89, achieved the highest number of golds, 25, and secured the unprecedented top 5 in the medals table.

It was not easy to secure fifth place. After spending the first few days among the five best countries at the Paralympics, Brazil came to occupy eighth place in the medals quarter at the end of Thursday (5), four days before the end of the Games. But from Friday (6) recovery came. With four gold medals won, Brazil reached seventh place and came up against France and Italy, which would become the great opponent for fifth place.

Medal after medal, Brazil and Italy fought for the top 5 in the table of medals. On Saturday (7), Brazilian athletes secured the country's best day in the history of the Paralympics with six golds, three silvers and seven bronzes, and sixth place in the classification. With such a performance, Brazil surpassed the 72 podiums and 22 gold medals from Tokyo 2022, achieving its best campaign in both categories.

However, it still lacked a position in the top five. The Italians had 24 gold medals, one more gold medal than Brazil, and slept in fifth place. That would change this Sunday morning (8).

In the first events of the last day of the race, Brazil won two more gold medals and overtook Italy. First, Fernando Rufino was champion in canoeing, winning gold in the 200m VL2 and leaving the countries tied. The race also had another Brazilian on the podium. Igor Tofalini finished in second place and took silver. Then, in the event that would bring the top 5 to Brazil, Tayana Medeiros broke the Paralympic record by lifting 156kg in the 86kg category and took gold.

Italy did not win any competition and no longer competes in competitions. Thus, Brazil guaranteed its best campaign in the history of the Paralympics. The great Brazilian highlights, as usual, were athletics, which reached its 200th medals won, and swimming, with 36 for the first and 26 for the second discipline.
