Botafogo was better than Flamengo in the classic this Sunday (28), at Maracanã. The 2-0 victory was fair, but there were still refereeing controversies. One of them happened when celebrating the first black and white goal. Striker Luiz Henrique wore a mask of the Marvel character Black Panther. And he was not warned.
Referee Raphael Claus decided not to issue a yellow card to Luiz Henrique, even though the Botafogo striker was using an object that is not part of his game uniform. On other occasions, players who used this feature to celebrate goals were warned with yellow cards. It's in the rules of the game. More specifically in rule 12.
The text says: “Even if the goal is disallowed, a player must be cautioned with a yellow card for: Covering the head or face with a mask or similar item”. Even so, both Claus and the fourth referee, Anderson Daronco, from Rio Grande do Sul, decided to turn a blind eye to Luiz Henrique's actions. To make matters worse, the yellow card during the goal celebration could have caused an expulsion later.
Luiz Henrique could have received a second yellow card in a row
Four minutes after the goal, Luiz Henrique finally received the the yellow card, but for a violent foul. If he had received a yellow card for the goal, he could have been sent off at the time of the foul, but Claus decided to ignore the rules of the game. This Monday (29), the game summary must be released to find out what the FIFA referee wrote about the move.
Raphael Claus, from São Paulo, came under pressure in the match between Flamengo and Botafogo. This is because the owner of SAF do Botafogo mentioned his name in a statement he gave to the National Congress about manipulation of results. John Textor presented no evidence. The CBF maintained Claus' schedule for the Rio classic.

Despite the two teams' different moments in the table, striker Osvaldo showed confidence in seeking a good result in Rio de Janeiro.
"We're going to Maracanã and trying to play a great game. We haven't lost at Maracanã in a few games, so I think we can build on that to put in a great performance. Flamengo is a tough opponent; they're the best team in our football world , and they've been achieving great results," the striker declared, before adding:
"But on the field, it's 11 against 11, especially against Vitória, who have a history of playing great games and surprising in several matches. I think we have what it takes to get there and get a great result . We know how difficult the game will be," Osvaldo concluded.
Flamengo takes the field to defend its sole lead in the Brasileirão , with 43 points. Filipe Luís's team is enjoying an excellent run of form , having gone six games unbeaten in the competition.
In addition to a solid run in the national championship, the Rio de Janeiro team secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores last week by eliminating Internacional. Prior to that, they had already beaten the same opponent 3-1 at Beira-Rio, cementing their good run.
