On the rise at Flamengo in 2025, Wallace Yan has established himself as one of the club's biggest prospects . The 20-year-old striker attributes much of his development to his work with coach Filipe Luís. During his appearance on MengoCast, released this Friday (11), the youngster praised the coach's trust and dedication in training. " He instills confidence in all the athletes and gives the players more peace of mind when making decisions on the field. He's a sensational coach," he said.
Wallace Yan on Filipe Luís at Flamengo: "He's a sensational coach"
Wallace highlighted the demands of training as one of the pillars of his growth, also mentioning the work of his assistant, Iván Palanco: " I messed up a movement in training, and he asked me to go back and repeat the movement . This has helped me a lot. Iván has also been giving me a hard time to ensure I always perform at my best," he said.
A Flamengo youth product, Wallace Yan won the U-20 World Cup under Filipe Luís. The turning point in his career, however, came when the coach decided to play him as a center forward —a move he initially rejected.
"He said I was versatile, with strength and speed, and that he liked strikers who attack space. He started telling me to play as a number 9, and I said: 'No, number 9 is really bad. Being on my back and getting hit isn't for me ,'" he said.
His debut in his new role was against Volta Redonda, when Wallace scored two goals: "I made 15 moves, received two balls, and scored two goals. I told Filipe, 'I can't do it anymore, I can't take it anymore.' But he asked me to stay. Thank God I understood, and now I'm here ," he added.
Wallace's good form has sparked interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers in England, who have signaled a €20 million (R$129.7 million) offer. Flamengo, however, has no intention of negotiating with him at this time . The club is working to renew the striker's contract, increasing the length of his contract and the release clause, currently set at €40 million, to ward off interest from foreign clubs.
