Despite frequent criticism, the Right-back Wesley, from Flamengo, has shown significant progress. His numbers in the Brasileirão reveal that he stands out defensively, in addition to contributing quality support to the attack during games.

No other Flamengo player made more tackles than Wesley in the current edition of the Brasileirão. The full-back also leads the team's interceptions ranking, surpassing even the team's most experienced defenders.

With 49 tackles and 30 interceptions in the 2024 championship, Wesley established himself as a fundamental player in the defensive sector, which justifies Atalanta's interest and the monitoring of other European clubs on its performance.

When it comes to the average number of tackles and interceptions per game, Wesley is almost tied with Chilean Erick Pulgar b>. Wesley has 2.1 tackles per game, while Pulgar registers 2.3, and in interceptions, the difference is minimal: 1.4 for the Chilean and 1.3 for Wesley. In other words, the numbers are quite close.

Fans recognize evolution, but point out improvements

On social media, in publications highlighting Wesley's numbers, many Flamengo fans recognized the young full-back's evolution. However, some highlighted that he still needs to improve the quality of his crosses, an area that needs to be worked on to further enhance his performances.

“Today Wesley is UNDERESTIMATED”, says Matheus.

“People criticize, but the boy's recent evolution is impressive”, highlights Luiz.

“Just because he doesn't know how to cross he's taken for granted, he's been playing a lot lately”, says Daniel.

“People keep falling over themselves, but he has evolved a lot both defensively and in supporting the attack. What remains is to improve the crossing”, says another fan.

“You just have to learn to cross this misfortune”, bugle Alexandre.

The future of center forward Juninho at Flamengo has taken on new chapters in recent days. The player, who had already been the subject of speculation , has failed to establish himself in the first team and has lost ground in the competition for a starting spot.

In recent matches, the coach opted to improvise Bruno Henrique and Plata in the position, in addition to giving more minutes to young Wallace Yan. Even when Pedro was out of the team, Juninho didn't have many opportunities to show his worth.

BOARD CHANGES POSITION

According to journalist Fabrício Lopes, there's been a significant shift behind the scenes at Gávea. While the club previously rejected offers for the player, the current stance is different: the board is open to negotiating with him , provided they receive a satisfactory offer.

Juninho's situation isn't the only movement in the attacking sector. According to a report by the Gazeta do Urubu website, striker Michael is also no longer part of the club's immediate plans and has been authorized to seek a new destination. The player, who has lost his place in Brazilian football, may face a transfer to the Arab world as his next challenge.

FLAMENGO'S NEXT COMMITMENT

While monitoring the market, Flamengo focuses all its attention on the Libertadores. The duel against Internacional, scheduled for Wednesday (13), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, opens the series of clashes that could define the club's future in the tournament.
