Flamengo won, advanced to the next round of the Copa do Brasil and gained a reinforcement that could have an impact on the rest of the season. The name of the game in Paraíba was Joshua , a product of the youth academy, who made his debut among the professionals and even scored his own goal. His first goal for the main team came at the first opportunity, reflecting the trust that the club has had in the youngster since the youth ranks.
At 17 years old, Joshua is considered a gem in the making at Ninho do Urubu . And it's not just for today. At Flamengo since he was 9, the player started playing futsal and always drew attention for his refined touch, vision of the game and ability to finish. He quickly moved up through all the categories, always wearing the number 10 jersey — a symbol of responsibility and protagonism.
At the youth level, the numbers speak for themselves: he has scored over 100 goals since he was in the under-10s. In the under-15 Carioca tournament alone, he scored 16 goals and was the competition's second-highest scorer. It is no surprise that when he turned 16, Joshua signed his first professional contract with an initial fee of 50 million euros (R$267 million at the time), in line with the standard adopted for high-potential athletes.
With a solid performance, especially in the under-17s, where he shone under Filipe Luís, Joshua was the standout in the category's 2023 Copa Rio win, beating Vasco. He finished as the top scorer, with 12 goals, and began to be watched even more by members of the professional coaching staff.
Last year, his performance was the same. He played 31 games, with 30 direct participations in goals - a number that reinforces the youngster's consistency throughout the season. Internally, there is a clear conviction that Joshua has all the tools to establish himself in the main squad in the coming years.
With a great performance in the first half, Mais Querido beat the Minas Gerais team and reached eighth place in the Brazilian Youth Championship

Flamengo is out of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship . After drawing 1-1 in regular time against Cruzeiro, on Wednesday afternoon (30), at the Luso Brasileiro Stadium, the team was beaten 4-3 on penalties and said goodbye to the competition in the quarterfinals. Pedro Leão scored the Rubro-Negro's goal during the 90 minutes.
Bruno Pivetti's team created several chances, especially in the second half, but failed to convert their superiority into goals. Cruzeiro took the lead in the first half, with Baptistella scoring in the 26th minute. Mengão's response came early in the second half , with Pedro Leão capitalizing on an opposing defense error to equalize the match in the first minute.
Flamengo continued to press and had at least four good chances to turn the score around, notably shots by Lorran and Felipe Teresa. However, the ball stubbornly refused to go in, with a shot hitting the post and important saves by the Minas Gerais goalkeeper.
In the penalty shootout, Cruzeiro scored with Pedro, Iago, and Wanderson , but Lorran and Guilherme missed their own. Goalkeeper Lucas Furtado even saved a penalty, but the final score of 4-3 secured Cruzeiro's place in the semifinals.
With the national elimination, the focus of Flamengo 's youth team now turns to the Campeonato Carioca U-20. The debut is scheduled for Saturday (3), at 3 pm, again at the Luso Brasileiro Stadium, against Portuguesa-RJ. The coaching staff will continue working to adjust the team after the elimination, highlighting the good collective performance and the chances created throughout the match.
The young player had spells at Vasco and Botafogo and now joins the Mais Querido team in the Brazilian Youth Championship this season.

Flamengo's planning to strengthen its youth teams continues at a fast pace. This Monday (27), the club agreed to sign 17-year-old left-back João Carlos , who has played for teams such as Vasco and Botafogo. The information was released by digital influencer Guilherme Flazoeiro.
João Carlos has signed a youth development contract with the red-and-black club, although the duration of the contract has not been revealed. The young athlete arrives at Ninho do Urubu to join Flamengo 's under-17 squad , which is competing in the Brazilian Championship.
Revealed by Vasco's under-15 team in 2023, João Carlos was quickly promoted to the under-17 team after strong performances.
