Flamengo's executive director of football, Bruno Spindel, was suspended for 20 days this Thursday (13) by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD). The decision was taken as a result of criticism made by the director against the refereeing and the CBF after Rubro-Negro's 1-1 draw with Red Bull Bragantino, in the Brasileirão.

At the time, Flamengo contested vehemently not awarding a penalty to Luiz Araújo, a move that was disregarded by the VAR. After the final whistle, Bruno Spindel requested an interview and used blunt terms to criticize the performance of the referees and the highest authority in Brazilian football, mentioning that "those who complain about fraud, theft and manipulation are being benefited by the referees", in a clear allusion to John Textor, owner of SAF do Botafogo.

The punishment applied to Spindel is based on article 258 §2º, II of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD), which deals with "disrespect towards team members of arbitration, or disrespectful complaint against its decisions".

As the suspension comes into effect the day after the trial, the manager is free to perform his duties in the match against Grêmio, this Thursday, at Maracanã. During the trial, Bruno Spindel was represented by lawyer Michel Assef Filho, who stated that he will appeal the decision.

CONTEXTUALIZATION AND FUTURE PERSPECTIVES

The STJD's decision reflects the severity of the rules of conduct established by the body in relation to criticism of arbitration. Spindel's defense indicated that he will seek to reverse the suspension at higher levels, aiming to guarantee the continuity of his activities with Flamengo.

Against the current Superliga champion, Bernardinho's team played 3 sets to 0 at Minas, with scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-17. The duel took place at Ginásio Wilson Mânica, in Ijuí, Rio Grande do Sul.

The tournament featured three clubs and serves as preparation for the 2024/25 Superliga. On Wednesday (25), Flamengo beat Maringá. On Thursday (26), Minas also beat the team from Paraná. Therefore, this Friday (27th) the big decision took place, which had a packed gym.

Victory to respect

Despite being a competition to open the season, Flamengo's victory gives a boost to the season. After all, Minas is the team to beat in Brazilian women's volleyball. Thus, in the last five Superligas, the Belo Horizonte team won four titles and one runner-up. In the squad, there are athletes who have played for the Brazilian team, such as Thaísa, Olympic champion and bronze medalist in this year's edition, in Paris.

Superliga

The dates of the Women's Super League have not yet been announced. However, there is an expectation that the competition will start in October. In total, 12 teams will play the tournament, in a round-robin system, with the eight best qualifying for the quarter-finals.

In the last edition, after all, Flamengo was eliminated by Praia Clube in the semi-final . Therefore, the goal for 2024/25 is to reach the decision and repeat the title won in 2000/01, when Rubro-Negro beat Vasco, in a historic decision at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho.

The event will be held in Central Park, New York. FIFA did not detail how many cities and stadiums will host the 2025 edition. This will be the first time that the tournament will feature 32 teams.

The Super World Cup will be held between June 15 and July 13, 2025 The competition already has 30 qualified teams, with three Brazilians among them: Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense. Brazil may have one more representative. This is because Atlético-MG and Botafogo are fighting for the last South American place in the competition — the Libertadores title gives them the place. Peñarol [if they win the Libertadores] and Olímpia [if River wins the Libertadores] are the other teams in the running.

What will the Super Mundial be like?

< The competition organized by FIFA will be played for the first time with 32 teams next year. The United States will host the first edition of the tournament in this format. The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups with four teams each, with them facing each other in a single round. The top two in each group will advance to the round of 16. The knockout stage will be played in a single game.

The places are divided into: 12 for Europe, six for South America, four for Asia, Africa and North, Central America and the Caribbean, one for Oceania and one for the host country.

In addition to the remaining MLS spot, which has not yet defined its representative, the other available entry belongs to South America. It is destined for the champion of the edition of 2024 of the Libertadores. If River Plate wins the title, it will be transferred to the Conmebol ranking in FIFA and would already have an owner: Olímpia-PAR.

Flamengo will no longer make signings in 2024, this is what Marcos Braz guarantees. After qualifying for the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil, this Thursday (12), the vice-president of red-black football gave an interview in the mixed zone of Maracanã and confirmed that the club considered hiring a new striker after Pedro's injury. But the board's final decision is to trust the attackers who are in the squad.

“We believe in the end. There were four hired at the beginning of the year, four now. We raised the hypothesis of bringing in a striker, but we understood, talking to everyone, that it was bringing someone to actually solve it”, began Braz after Flamengo 1 x 0 Bahia.

The manager recalled that Gabigol and Bruno Henrique has already been very decisive with the Sacred Mantle and has all the capacity to take over the top scorer spot. Camisa 27, in fact, was the author of the assist for the winning goal this Thursday.

“Whoever we have here has solved our problem many times, like Gabigol, Bruno 9, as he did today. Flamengo has already closed the window. Let's go with what we have until the end, recovering players. Gabigol returned today.”.

Some attackers were offered after Pedro suffered a serious injury while serving the national team. The name that gained the most traction within Flamengo was that of Frenchman Anthony Martial, formerly of Manchester United, but the deal did not move forward. Now, Marcos Braz confirms that Mengão is no longer on the market.

Flamengo signed this season: De La Cruz, Viña, Léo Ortiz, Carlinhos, Michael, Alex Sandro, Carlos Alcaraz and Gonzalo Plata. Reinforcements that together cost R$298.2 million to the club's coffers.

“It happens in football. Gabriel solved our problems several times and resolved them well. I'm not casting, but there's Bruno Henrique himself, Carlinhos. We are comfortable (with these attackers) for the competitions”, added Braz.

Marcos Braz admits Gabigol's departure from Flamengo

Gabigol was the main theme of the football vice interview. Asked once again about a possible contract renewal, Braz finally acknowledged that the trend is for Camisa 99 to leave at the end of the season.

“There may be a chance of contract renewal. It’s not impossible, but, unfortunately, it’s unlikely today”, concluded Marcos Braz.
