Flamengo recently announced the signing of Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, who will wear the number 37 shirt of Rubro-Negro . On his first visit to Ninho do Urubu, last Friday, the 20-year-old player met his new teammates and revealed the reason behind choosing the number.
"I chose 37 because it was the number with which I made my debut for Racing and also for the Argentine national team. It's a special number for me", explained Alcaraz in an interview with FlaTV.
CARLOS ALCARAZ CONTRACT AND DEBUT
Carlos Alcaraz arrives at Flamengo after being acquired for R$ 110.6 million from Southampton, from England. The player signed a contract until August 2029, reinforcing his long-term commitment to the Rio club.
After the pre-season in English football, Alcaraz was in good physical shape and will now be available for Flamengo's next game, against Corinthians, this Sunday, at 4pm, at Neo Química Arena, for the 25th round of the Brazilian Championship.
ALCARAZ ADMIRA NICO DE LA CRUZ
In his first statements as a Flamengo player , Alcaraz expressed admiration for one of his new teammates, Uruguayan Nico De La Cruz, with whom he played several games when he played for Racing in Argentina.
"I like playing like De La Cruz. I've known him since Argentina and I admire the way he moves on the field, always looking to attack. Now, I want to contribute to the team and help Flamengo achieve its goals", said the Argentine.
That's right. It is important to remember that De La Cruz, currently one of Flamengo's stars, previously played for River Plate, Racing's traditional rival, the club that revealed Alcaraz. After his time at Racing between 2020 and 2022, Alcaraz was transferred to Southampton, and last season, he played on loan at Juventus, in Italy.
