Alex Sandro has arrived! The 33-year-old full-back is already at Rio de Janeiro to perform at Flamengo. The player, who had been without a club since ending his contract with Juventus in Italy, where he had played since 2015, arrives to fill a shortage in the red-and-black squad after the injury to Uruguayan Matías Viña, who ruptured ligaments in his knee and fracture in the tibia.

After a nine-hour flight from Portugal, Alex Sandro posed for official photos wearing the Sacred Mantle. The full-back will wear Mais Querido's number 26. The athlete usually wears number 12, which he used during his time in Italy, however, the number has been retired at Flamengo since 2007, in honor of the red and black fans, symbolizing a 12th player.

On arrival at Galeão airport, Alex Sandro revealed his expectation of playing for Mengão, thanked the red and black fans for their affection, who were even with him on the flight to Rio de Janeiro.

“I'm looking forward, very happy, I can't wait to start training, going to games, getting as many minutes as possible. I've already started to receive maximum affection from Flamengo fans on the flight. Many came with me, they all wished me happiness, gave me good luck, even fans from other clubs too. I needed this affection from the Brazilian fans and I'm very happy to be here”, said Alex Sandro, who also commented on how he can help Mengão.

“Not only on the field, but off too. I had the opportunity to work with excellent players and coaches. From Porto, Juventus, Brazilian team. So, all of this now I bring to Flamengo, but I also came to learn from the high-level players they have (at the club), from the coaches, physical trainers, from the red and black nation, I'm sure I'll learn a lot and I am already receiving this affection that is special for me and my entire family”, he added.

Alex Sandro returns to Brazil after 13 years playing in European football. The full-back left Santos for Porto, in Portugal, where he played for four seasons. His good performances took him to Juventus, where he stayed from 2015 until the end of the 2023/24 season. He had been without a club since then and arrived at Flamengo where he met again the coach who trained him in the Brazilian team, Tite, with whom he has prestige and was a starter in most of the opportunities.

Flamengo said goodbye to the Women's Copa do Brasil this Wednesday (17), after a 1-0 defeat to São Paulo, in the quarterfinals of the tournament. After the final whistle, striker Cristiane spoke out and made harsh criticisms of the refereeing.

Flamengo's Cristiane, after elimination from the Copa do Brasil: "It was biased refereeing"

"Everyone saw today's match , no need to even talk about it. The refereeing was biased, and it also went wrong in São Paulo's favor. But when the refereeing ends up deciding the match, it gets complicated . I don't know the choices made for a game as big as this, Flamengo vs. São Paulo," the player declared.

She continued: " Unfortunately, today had a big impact on us . We've made significant progress compared to the beginning of the year, that's clear. But when the refereeing has a direct impact, it gets difficult," Cristiane concluded.

HOW WAS THE GAME?

The first half of the derby was evenly matched. São Paulo started better, but after 20 minutes, Flamengo began to control possession. Even so, neither team managed to score before halftime . In the second half, the São Paulo team came back with more intensity and capitalized on a defensive lapse. Duda Serrana appeared unmarked to score the winning goal and secure the tricolor's place in the semifinals.
