The Brazilian Football Confederation officially announced on Monday (12) the hiring of Carlo Ancelotti as the new coach of the Brazilian National Team. The contract runs until the 2026 World Cup, but the coach has already started to make plans for the FIFA Date in June — when he will make his first call-up.
Even before stepping foot on Brazilian soil as coach of the national team, the multiple-champion Italian has been making moves behind the scenes. According to an investigation by journalists from Rede Globo and confirmed by sources at the CBF, Ancelotti has been seeking detailed information about names that play in Europe and that are not on the usual list.
Among the players who caught Ancelotti 's attention is Alexsandro, a defender for Lille in France. The 24-year-old player came through the ranks of Flamengo's youth teams, where he played between 2015 and 2017. Since then, he has built a career in European football and is now one of the French team's defensive standouts.
Ancelotti's moves have been discreet, but sources close to the coach confirm that Alexsandro's name was raised during conversations with members of the coaching staff and CBF performance analysts. In addition to him, Caio Henrique, from Monaco, and Antony, currently at Betis, on loan from Manchester United, are also on the agenda.
Alexsandro never played for Flamengo 's first team. He was sold while still in the youth ranks to Resende, the club that brought him to the Portuguese market. Officially presented this Monday with the number 15 shirt, Jorge Carrascal arrived at Flamengo with the mission of strengthening the creative sector, occupying a role in which Arrascaeta has been a reference since 2019. Although he has not yet debuted with the Manto Sagrado, the Colombian midfielder stated that playing for the Rio de Janeiro club represents an important milestone in his professional career.
"The truth is, I came to Flamengo with a purpose: to work, compete, and achieve the best for the club. The short-term goal is to play and earn matches. I'll work hard, focus on the clear objective, and the lineup will depend on the coach," the player declared.
During the interview, Carrascal made a point of praising the club's structure and the Mais Querido's representation in the South American scene. According to him, the decision to wear the red-and-black jersey was made with conviction.
