The most expensive player in the club's history is sold before the end of the loan; the club saves on salaries and seeks a new midfielder for 2025

Flamengo this week officially announced the sale of midfielder Carlos Alcaraz to Everton , from England, for 15 million euros (approximately R$96 million). The amount represents a loss of R$14 million compared to the R$110 million invested in the purchase of the Argentine , carried out in August 2024, making it the most expensive signing in the club's history.
During his time at Flamengo , Alcaraz played 19 official matches , scored three goals and provided two assists. Despite the high investment, his performance was below expectations. Furthermore, the midfielder received a salary of R$1.5 million per month and was unable to adapt to the playing style implemented by Filipe Luís, which demands intensity and versatility in the midfield.
Under the loan agreement , Everton would only be required to pay the full purchase price if the player started at least nine games. Since Alcaraz only started seven games, the English club proposed a reduced offer, which was accepted to avoid the player returning to Brazil. The agreement also includes R$19 million in bonuses tied to goals such as performance in the Premier League and possible European qualification.
The transfer represents a relief in the payroll until 2029 and reinforces the need for replacement in the sector. The football department is already working to find a new midfielder who can play alongside or in the absence of Arrascaeta. The board considers the situation as an important learning experience in evaluating large future investments, especially with regard to adaptation and technical return.
Signed in August 2024, Alcaraz arrived at Mengão with high expectations , but failed to establish himself. For Everton, the midfielder participated in 17 games, starting seven times. The signing of the definitive contract has already been completed and the transfer will officially take place at the end of this month, ending a short and lackluster cycle for the athlete in Brazilian football.
