On the afternoon of this past Saturday (2), the Flamengofaced Madureira and won by a score of 3-0, in a match valid for the last round of Carioca. Furthermore, Mais Querido also won the first title of the season: the Guanabara Cup. However, the topic of the moment was Gabigol. After the game, coach Tite spoke about the absence of number 10 on the field to receive the medals.

"Gabi is a great athlete and needs to be in the best condition for Flamengo to win with this. Flamengo , as an entity, is the greatest, above anything. He hurt, unfortunately. One last word, information, not an opinion. Before entering the field, he was the one who asked to speak, in the changing rooms. You know what he said "Value it a lot, because it's great to be there. Health is fundamental." He was part of that integration," said Tite, at a press conference.

REASON FOR ABSENCE

THE shirt 10 of Mais Querido was not on the bench in the match against Madureira, as he was vetoed by the medical department. In training last Friday (1), the player was injured and was left out of the relationship. Even so, Gabigol was at Maracanã this Saturday (2) and even went up to the pitch before the match. However, he did not appear after the final whistle.

In this way, after the opponents are defined, Mais Querido will have four more State Championship matches before starting in the competitions officers. The expectation is for titles for the season.

Several Uruguayan newspapers covered the tie between Flamengo and Vasco this Sunday (15). Among the main vehicles, “El País” and “Montevidéu Portal” highlighted that Luiz Araújo left the classic with a possible knee injury and could be absent for Rubro-Negro in the first game of the Libertadores quarter-finals against Peñarol, next Thursday (19).

Luiz Araújo played just 18 minutes in the classic. The attacker felt his knee after a challenge with a Vasco defender and even tried to continue on the field, but ended up being replaced by Arrascaeta. At half-time, Flamengo issued a statement informing that the player will be re-evaluated by the medical department at Ninho do Urubu. The squad will be presented again this Monday afternoon (16).

Uruguayan newspapers consider the possible absence of Luiz Araújo a big problem for Mengão. The athlete is a starter in Tite's team, with the most matches for Flamengo this season (50) and leader in assists (10).

The newspaper 'El País' classified the player as a key player for the team: “The injury to Luiz Araújo, one of the most important players in Mengão's squad, expands the list of injured players just a few days before the clash against Peñarol in the Copa Libertadores.”

The 'Montevideo Portal' followed the same line, highlighting the importance of the striker: “In addition to the result, another bad news for Peñarol's next rival in the Copa Libertadores it was the departure of Luiz Araújo. The fast right-winger, starter for Flamengo, felt pain in his right knee after a blow.”

Currently, Flamengo's medical department has five injured players: De La Cruz, Michael, Cebolinha, Viña and Pedro, with the trio formed by Cebolinha, Viña and Pedro only expected to return in 2025.

Expectations for De La Cruz in the game against Peñarol

While awaiting Luiz Araújo's diagnosis, coach Tite revealed, after the draw against Vasco, that he hopes to count on De La Cruz for the duel against Peñarol . According to the coach, the Uruguayan's presence could improve the effectiveness of the team, which has shown good performance in recent matches.

“In training, when he (De la Cruz) was leaving, I asked 'is there enough for 20? minutes?'. He smiled, because he couldn't. The physical department definitely said they were not in a position to do so. Not even him feeling well. Especially because you have to talk to the athlete, because then there is the charge. Hopefully, and I hope that he can be there on Thursday to reproduce today's performance, with greater effectiveness”, said Tite in the post-game press conference between Flamengo x Vasco.

O Flamengohas not lifted a Carioca Championship title since 2021. In total, there were two seasons of seeing Fluminense prevail in the finals and keep the trophy . Now, Mais Querido has 38 titles in the competition. However, the Rubro-Negro board has a lot to do with this.

Right after Flamengo in front of Palestino, Tite held a press conference and spoke about priorities for the season. The coach is waiting, for example, for contact with the Red and Black board to understand whether to prioritize the Brasileirão or the Libertadores. However, he drew attention when he mentioned the behind-the-scenes information about the latest matches.

TITE REVEALS THAT THE BOARD HAS PRIORIZED CARIOCA

After scoring a wide score of 3 to 0 in the first game of the Carioca final, it was expected that Tite would spare half of the squad in the second leg with the Libertadores in mind. However, the coach, even after the players had an exhausting sequence, selected all the starters in the second game.

This is because Marcos Braz, Rodolfo Landim and Bruno Spindel wanted to win the State and asked Tite prioritize the tournament. Thus, the coach did not give the athletes a rest following a request from the board of Mais Querido.

“It's sitting down to see what the management also wants. You have to be in tune. We established, when the management stated: our priority is to win the Carioca Championship. Bruno Spíndel, Marcos (Braz) put it, the president put it, the vice put it. We talk about this in the locker room”, reveals Tite.

FOCUS ON THE DEBUT OF THE BRAZILIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Now, with the entire squad available, Tite will focus on the activities for Rubro-Negro’s debut in the Brasileirão. Flamengo debuts in the competition next Sunday (14), at 4pm, against Atlético GO, at the Serra Dourada Stadium.
