Flamengo started the Tite era on the right foot, winning a 2-0 victory over Cruzeiro, on Thursday (19), during the 27th round of the Brasileirão. The goals were scored in the first half, with Ayrton Lucas and Pedro, the latter converting a penalty. Shirt number 9 is Rubro-Negro's top scorer this season.
The result leaves Cruzeiro in 14th place, one point behind Santos, which opens the relegation zone. The Minas Gerais team won just one of the last 12 games they played in the Brazilian Championship. While Flamengo reached 3rd place behind only Botafogo and Bragantino.
Pedro, Flamengo's top scorer in 2023, contributed with another goal in the victory over Cruzeiro this Thursday (19). Scoring from the penalty spot, the player wearing the number 9 shirt scored against the Mineirão net, guaranteeing a 2-0 victory in the Brasileirão. With this goal, he reached the mark of 29 goals for the season, equaling the feat of 2022, making this his most prolific year as a top scorer.
With his 29 goals, Pedro is now very close to reaching the scored 100 goals wearing the Flamengo shirt. The center forward is the second highest scorer in the current squad, behind only Gabigol, who has 153 goals. Before playing for Rubro-Negro, Pedro played for Fiorentina, but did not score a goal in four matches he played for the Italian team in 2019. At Fluminense, the club that revealed him, he scored 31 goals.
Since his arrival at Ninho do Urubu in 2020, Pedro has played 209 matches with Manto Sagrado. Of his 99 goals, eight were penalties, 14 headed and four chested. However, the number 9 also had three missed penalties during his career with Flamengo. These statistics highlight his importance as a goalscorer for the Rio club.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.
Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. "The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."
