After the draw with Fluminense last Saturday (11), Tite's assistant, Cesar Sampaio, stood next to the coach at the press conference and answered a question regarding why Ayrton Lucas and Wesley remained on the bench for Filipe Luís and Matheuzinho.
According to Cesar, Rubro Negro's game with Matheuzinho and Filipe Luís suited Cebolinha and Luiz Araújo better for the classic against Fluminense. In the assessment of the technical committee, Mais Querido's full-backs give more freedom to the midfielders to set up plays.
“The construction structure, using the full-backs inside, depends a lot on the opponent, their strength and vulnerability. For this game, as we (Flamengo) had two outside players, if you put a full-back who also passes, often the two will occupy the same space”, said Cesar before adding:
“Also because one of the strengths for Fluminense is the counterattack, with impact players in this offensive sector on the sides of the field. Therefore, we left the construction more to the midfield players, the full-backs often served as support or when an external player had an internal action to give space”, he concluded.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.
