Flamengo and Bahia face each other this Thursday (12), at Maracanã, seeking a place in the World Cup semi-final from Brazil. Rubro-Negro enters the field with the advantage of having won the first game 1-0, in addition to having a taboo in their favor. This is because Bahia never managed to advance in the competition after losing the first leg at home.
In the previous clash, held at Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador, Flamengo won 1-0. Now, the Bahian team needs a victory at Maracanã to maintain their chances of qualifying. In case of a tie, the place will go to Mais Querido. If Bahia wins by a goal difference, the decision will go to penalties. A victory by two or more goals guarantees Rogério Ceni's team in the next phase.
Throughout the history of the Copa do Brasil, Bahia managed to reverse defeats in the first game on four occasions (1989, 1999 , 2000 and 2012), but on all these occasions the Bahian team played the return match at home.
To advance to the semi-final, Bahia will have to break a taboo against Flamengo. The Bahian team has accumulated three defeats and two draws in clashes in the Copa do Brasil, in addition to two eliminations, one of them in the quarter-finals, the same stage as the current competition. Furthermore, Bahia has not beaten Rubro-Negro for five years, with nine consecutive defeats.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. "The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."

Red-and-black striker is the target of speculation in the transfer market

This Monday (16), rumors emerged involving Bahia's interest in signing Gabigol, striker from Mais Querido. According to the channel Paparazzo Rubro-Negro, Tricolor de Aço would have entered the dispute for Gabigol, who has a contract with Flamengojust until December this year. In addition to Bahia, clubs such as Corinthians, Cruzeiro, Grêmio, Palmeiras and Santos would also be keeping an eye on the player.
Despite the speculation, the Bahia board was quick to deny any ongoing negotiations to count on the shirt 99 from Mengão. According to the club's leadership, there is no intention of repeating an operation similar to that carried out with Everton Ribeiro.
As soon as news of the supposed interest began to circulate, Bahia tried to clarify the situation. In a statement, the club's senior management stated that there are no negotiations to sign Gabigol for next season. The information of possible interest, therefore, was directly denied by Tricolor's directors.
Even so, the attacker remains one of the most targeted names in the transfer market for 2025, as he is in the final stretch of contract with Flamengoand you can now sign a pre-contract with any other team.
With Bahia's denial, Corinthians remains the main favorite to sign Gabigol from next year. The possibility of the red-black striker wearing the Timão shirt gains strength, especially after coach Tite appointed Gabigol as the third option for Mengão's attacking command, behind Pedro and Bruno Henrique.
