Benfica coach Bruno Lage said he did not analyze the way Flamengo beat Chelsea 3-1 before the decisive game against the English club. The coach stressed that he saw the game differently:
"We don't analyze many Chelsea games. The game against Flamengo was important to understand how the team behaves in the conditions we are in [very hot]. This changes the intensity of the game slightly, we saw it from that perspective" - Bruno Lage, in a press conference on the eve of the match.
Striker Pavlidis, the team's top scorer, also echoed the coach's words. The Greek said that Benfica did not analyze the paths that led Flamengo to victory in that game:
"We didn't see exactly how Chelsea lost. But we analysed Chelsea and we will do our best to win and continue in the competition. We know it will be very difficult" - Pavlidis.
Benfica arrives in the round of 16 with high morale after beating Bayern Munich in the last round of the group stage and finishing as leader of Group D of the World Cup. This is because the Bavarian team is one of the candidates for the title of this first edition of the Club World Cup.
Chelsea's recently signed midfielder Dario Essugo said the defeat to Rubro-negro "helped" the English club understand what can be improved in a new playing system.
