Gerson began to feel severe abdominal pain on January 18, which led to him being admitted to a hospital in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. After a series of tests, doctors decided that surgery was necessary, as the ureteral stricture was compromising his health.
The player, who served as captain of Flamengo under the command of Tite, the team was missing in two important matches for the Campeonato Carioca, against Boavista and Fluminense , respectively, with victories for the red-black team.
