Botafogo suffered a 3-2 defeat to Juventude this Sunday (11), at the Alfredo Jaconi Stadium. The result gives Flamengo the opportunity to resume leadership of the Brazilian Championship in the 22nd round, if they beat Palmeiras at Maracanã, at 4pm. With a victory, Rubro-Negro will once again become first place, surpassing Botafogo according to the tiebreaker criteria.

Coach Artur Jorge opted to spare some players in the confrontation with Juventude, focusing on the game of Libertadores scheduled for midweek. However, the strategy did not have the desired effect, resulting in a below-expected performance and defeat.

Botafogo were unable to control possession in the first half and found themselves struggling in the transition game. Juventude opened the scoring with a goal from Boza in the 8th minute and expanded with Carrillo before the break.

REKINDING HOPE

In the second half, Marcelinho scored a beautiful goal and it looked like Juventude was headed for a rout. However, Botafogo reacted with goals from Cuiabano and Marçal, reducing the advantage and threatening the home team's victory. Despite the final pressure from Botafogo, Juventude managed to maintain the result and guarantee the victory.

IMPACT ON THE TABLE

< With the defeat, Botafogo remains with 43 points and could be overtaken by Flamengo, who currently has 40 points. If Palmeiras beats, Flamengo will equal Botafogo's score, but will take the lead due to the difference in goal difference. At the moment, both teams are tied with 14 goals difference, but Flamengo could benefit from a victory.

This past Tuesday (17), Felipe Motta announced his departure from Flamengo through his social networks, after one season. Now, the athlete will defend Rubro-Negro's rival, Botafogo in NBB 2024/25.

Felipe was revealed as an athlete with great potential. The young man played for the Brazilian National Team's youth teams, went through the NBA Global Academy, the North American league's development program, and played for Fortaleza before arriving at Rubro-Negro last season. He was champion of the Super 8 Cup and was part of the runner-up in the NBB.

However, Felipe only had a few minutes on the court per game and very discreet numbers. The winger played 5 minutes on average per game and had the following statistics: 1.3 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists. The young man had more opportunities in LNb 2024 and did well in the fourth place campaign, but both parties reached an agreement and ended the relationship.

FELIPE MOTTA SAYS GOODBYE TO FLAMENGO

On his social networks, Felipe Motta thanked Mais Querido and sent a message to the Nation: “Thank you Flamengo. It was an honor to be part of and play for the red and black nation.”

It is expected that Felipe will have more minutes at Botafogo and can establish himself among the elite of Brazilian basketball. The new NBB 2024/25 season will start in the second week of October, and Mais Querido will face Vasco in the first round.
