Gabigol's stay is still unknown at Flamengo. This Wednesday (23), the football vice-president, Marcos Braz, gave an interview to TNT Sports and updated the situation of the number 99 at the club.
Case will be resolved within the Landim management
“The situation of Gabigol b> remains the same. I'm a person who everyone knows about the relationship I have with the player and the effort I personally made to get him here in 2019. But, to answer it straight, there's still absolutely nothing. If this is resolved, it will be resolved within this management. Especially because the player only has a contract until December 31st. If this is resolved, it’s now”, commented Braz to TNT Sports.
Gabigol even had a renewal in word
With a contract until December this year, Gabigol and the Rubro board -Negra agreed that the attacker would remain until the end of 2029. However, when the papers arrived at Rodolfo Landim, the president blocked the agreement. With the arrival of Tite and the few opportunities for the attacker, the Flamengo even offered a new renewal proposal for just one year and a 50% salary increase, which was promptly denied by the player. In this way, the departure of shirt 99 was practically taken for granted, just waiting for the end of his contract by the end of this year.
Change of scenery with Filipe Luís
Although it seemed that Gabigol's future was already defined away from Flamengo, one fact made this situation change: the arrival of Filipe Luís to the position of coach. This is because, after the former full-back took charge of the team, the attacker began to have more chances, including being the coach's starter until now. Therefore, a renewal of Gabi is not ruled out.
Filipe Luís comments on Gabigol's poor form
In the classification over Corinthians in the Copa do Brasil b>, Filipe Luís removed Gabigol to replace Fabrício Bruno in the first half after Bruno Henrique was sent off. The change had an effect and, even with one less, the team suffered little.
In the interview press conference after the game, Filipe Luís was asked about Gabigol's substitution and phase. The coach was clear in saying that the striker's moment is not good, but that the change was necessary for game reasons.
“My team I play with a deep 9, which attacks space. Gabi has this function. Pedro is injured, Carlinhos can't play. What other player attacks space better than Gabriel? Is he at his best? It is not. We all know. Will you never recover? I don’t know, it’s up to him,” began Filipe.
“No It has nothing to do with the game he was playing. It was a strategy for the team. The first option is to remove the attacker and leave players on the field who can be physically resilient. Obviously I needed to leave Arrascaeta there because he's a midfielder and covers more of the field. It was a strategic issue”, he added.
