Flamengo 's medical department has acquired a new ultrasound device to improve the detection and prevention of muscle injuries. In addition, the club has also hired Bruno Hassel, a radiologist who will join the club's medical team to be responsible for the area. " It will allow the medical team to assess injuries, especially muscle and tendon injuries, in a faster, more accessible and effective way, both in terms of detection and treatment. It is known that the majority of sports-related injuries are muscular, and ultrasound is one of the main imaging methods for assessing muscle and tendon injuries ," he said.
The ultrasound machine allows doctors to assess the athlete in different conditions, while most other imaging tests require the patient to lie still. Bruno explained that being able to examine the player's muscle both contracted and relaxed increases the accuracy of the diagnosis.
" It allows a rapid, sophisticated assessment of the microstructure of muscles and tendons and detection of these injuries. In addition, it has a unique advantage compared to other imaging methods. I can perform an assessment during contraction, during relaxation and during movement. This is unique to ultrasound ," he said, before adding:
" An assessment of musculoskeletal injuries related to sports is extremely important. The machine is available and will be at the CT. Therefore, it is not necessary to schedule an examination and transport the athlete. This will facilitate the logistics in the flow of investigation of an injury. "
