The investigation involving Bruno Henrique for possible participation in sports betting had new developments last Tuesday (15). At the moment, the Superior Court of Sports Justice ( STJD ) should not suspend the Flamengo striker preventively before the trial of the case.
According to information from the 'UOL Esporte' portal, the tendency is for the STJD to keep Bruno Henrique free to play, unless new facts emerge that change the current understanding. The president of the court, Luís Otávio Veríssimo , believes that a preventive punishment should only be applied if there is an imminent risk of reoffending - which, in the case of the number 27, does not seem to apply.
The accusation is based on a specific episode, which occurred in the 31st round of the 2023 Brasileirão, and not on an alleged ongoing involvement in betting schemes. On that occasion, Bruno Henrique received a yellow card and was subsequently sent off after protesting against the refereeing in the game against Santos . The incident caught the attention of the authorities after an abnormal volume of bets for the striker's card was recorded.
As part of the investigation, the Federal Police collected the cell phones of Bruno Henrique and some family members . Recently, prints of conversations between the player and his brother reinforced the investigation , but so far there is no evidence that the athlete has benefited financially from the situation. The suspicion, at the moment, falls on gains obtained by third parties close to the player.
Article 243 of the Brazilian Sports Justice Code provides for punishments ranging from 180 days (six months) to 720 days (two years) of suspension, depending on the involvement and whether or not there was an economic advantage. If it is confirmed that Bruno Henrique did not obtain direct profit , the penalty should be close to the minimum provided for .
Until there is an official decision, Bruno Henrique remains available to Flamengo . He is listed for the classic against Vasco , this Saturday (19), at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, for the fifth round of the Brazilian Championship .
