The end of Gabigol's career at Flamengo could be near. With his contract expiring at the end of this season, the number 99 appears to be saying goodbye to Mengão, ending a successful and remarkable cycle. This possible departure has generated reactions, including from former teammates, such as defender Léo Duarte, who played alongside Gabriel Barbosa at Rubro-Negro in 2019.

EX-MATEPAPER LAUNCHES POSSIBLE DEPARTURE

Léo Duarte, who was Gabigol's teammate during the historic 2019 season, highlighted the impact that the striker's departure could have both for the club and for the fans. In an interview with ESPN, the defender stated that, although he wants the top scorer to remain, he recognizes that his departure could increase his value even further.

"As a fan of Gabigol's football, I would really like him to continue at Flamengo and become even more of an idol than he already is. But we know that, often, we only fully recognize the value of a player when he leaves. I think that, if that happens, he will be even more valued for what he did in the past", commented Léo.

HISTORY OF IMPORTANT TITLES AND GOALS

Léo Duarte, who also won titles at Flamengo, highlighted his admiration for Gabigol, with whom he shared the dressing room for seven months. The defender praised the attacker's talent and expressed his desire for him to remain at the club, although he highlighted that he was not aware of the negotiations between Gabigol and the board.

"He has experience and knows what is best for his career and future. As someone who already played alongside him and started his career at Flamengo, I hope Gabigol continues at the club, wins more titles and grows even more. But I don't know what's happening between him and the board, so I can't comment on that", added the club's former defender.

A GLORIOUS COURSE

Gabigol wrote his name in Flamengo's history with decisive goals, especially in winning the Libertadores in 2019 and 2022, in addition to scoring in the 2021 final. These achievements place him alongside club icons, such as Zico, as he is one of the few players to score in the finals of the South American tournament for Mengão.

Check it out:
