The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced the refereeing team for the match between Flamengoand Athletico-PR, valid for the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship. The clash takes place this Sunday (29), at 8pm, at Maracanã. The main referee will be Davi de Oliveira Lacerda, from the Espírito Santo Federation, who will make his first appearance in a Mais Querido game.

Davi Lacerda, 28 years old, will be assisted by Alex Ang Ribeiro (SP) and Alex dos Santos (SC). Furthermore, the video referee (VAR) will be Igor Benevenuto, a choice that generates controversy due to the history of controversies involving decisions in Rubro-Negro matches, including errors during the game against Palmeiras, in the Copa do Brasil, when he did not recommend the scoring of a penalty.

DEBUT AT FLAMENGO AND ARBITRATION HISTORY

Davi de Oliveira Lacerda debuted at Brasileirão Series A last season, refereeing just one match. In 2024, he established himself within the CBF, and the duel between Mengão and Athletico will be his 15th participation in this year's competition. With an average of 5.1 yellow cards per game and only one red card issued so far, the young referee has been gaining experience in the elite of Brazilian football.

The choice of Igor Benevenuto to command the VAR raises questions between fans and the CRF board, especially after the previous incidents. The refereeing will, without a doubt, be a factor of attention in the decisive clash at Maracanã.

FLAMENGO LOOKS FOR RECOVERY IN THE BRASILEIRÃO

After being eliminated in the Libertadores quarter-finals by Peñarol, Flamengo returns to training this Friday (27), with an eye on recovery in the Brazilian Championship. The pressure on coach Tite and the players increases, with the club facing a run of four games without a win. The duel against Athletico-PR, which is fighting relegation, will be crucial for the team to maintain its position in the G4.

With 45 points, Mengão occupies fourth place in the Brasileirão, 11 points behind the leader Botafogo. While the athletes are still talking about competing for the title, the immediate focus is to secure a place in the G4, since São Paulo, fifth placed, is just one point behind.

ATHLETICO-PR IN CRISIS AND THE FIGHT AGAINST Z-4

On the other side, Athletico-PR is going through a delicate moment. After being eliminated in the Copa Sudamericana, suffering a 4-1 defeat, the team from Paraná occupies 15th place in the Brasileirão table, with 31 points, three less than Corinthians, the first team within the relegation zone. Furacão needs victory at Maracanã to eliminate the risk of falling, which promises a tight game between two teams looking for rehabilitation.

After the elimination of Flamengo in the Libertadores, much was said about a promise from Tite, made after the defeat in the game one-way at Maracanã. On that occasion, the coach commented on the chances created and stated that he could be charged in the return game, because, although Mais Querido created fewer opportunities, this time he would score the goal. Casagrande recalled this speech and criticized the coach.

“In the 1-0 defeat to Peñarol at Maracanã, a goal by Cabrera, in the press conference after the game, with the greatest poker face, Tite used a strategy as if we were all imbeciles, saying the following: There in Montevideo we are going to score goals, you can demand me", began the commentator.

"Well, Tite, I'm demanding the promise you made. Even in the press conference after the elimination, your memory betrayed you and you said that it wasn't quite like that and that you hadn't promised a goal in Uruguay. Tite, just go online and your memory will return”, said Casagrande.

In the press conference after the goalless draw, which sealed the elimination of Flamengo, Tite denied having promised a goal in Uruguay.

“I promised? I said, I promise, we were going to score? I designed it, right? I'm not a futurist. Our goal was to create and do. But no promise. Yes, I designed it, it brought responsibility to me. Just the term no”, reinforced Tite.

Casagrande disagrees with Tite and assesses that Flamengo was not superior to Peñarol

During this Thursday's press conference On Friday (26), Tite mentioned moments in which Flamengo did well in the confrontation and stated that the team was superior to Peñarol , despite the elimination. However, Casagrande disagreed, pointing out that, in his view, the Uruguayan team was better, considering the game proposals and the circumstances of the match.

“Saying that Flamengo it was better to analyze it through an overview, as each team had its own needs and each had its own strategy, with different results objectives. If Flamengo had more of the ball, but didn't complete a single dangerous ball in Peñarol's goal, where is the superiority? ”, asked Casagrande.

The commentator also analyzed the strategies of both teams, with Tite betting on pressure on the Uruguayans, while Diego Aguirre closed the defense and explored counterattacks.

< “Tite's strategy was to go up, dictate the pace, push Diego Aguirre's team back and create several goal chances to, at least, score one and take the decision to penalties. Aguirre, on the other hand, had a strategy with two possibilities: first, to close completely to maintain a 0-0 draw; second, if we can mount a perfect counterattack and kill the game, that would be ideal”, he concluded.

Now, Flamengo turns the key and faces Athletico-PR, at Maracanã, with the mission of showing service to the Nation in their reunion after elimination.

Despite an inexplicable error when trying to force a ball into Bruno Henrique, who had his back turned and almost resulted in an opponent's goal, goalkeeper Rossi ended the match fighting for the victory. In a bold act, he advanced to midfield and ventured into the opponent's area, but was unsuccessful. Flamengo drew goalless and was eliminated from the Libertadores by Peñarol at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium.

During the press conference alongside Tite, Rossi was asked if he could promise the red and black fans a title. He said no, but he also refused to give up on the Brasileirão, even with Flamengo 11 points behind the leader, Botafogo, and with only a 1% mathematical chance of winning the championship. To support his optimism, the goalkeeper recalled Botafogo's unexpected drop in performance last year.

“We have very clear objectives, because Flamengo always has to win and that's how it is. Now, we're out, but the year isn't over yet. There are more than 10 games left in the Brazilian Championship. Botafogo has a very big difference, but last year there was too. Now it's time to focus on Sunday's game. In three days we will be on the field again, we have to change our minds for the game against Athletico-PR. And then there is the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil, which is very important, as we are only two games away from the final. So you have to keep working day to day. The Libertadores has already passed, but there are two competitions left for us to compete in”, stated Rossi.

The number 1 also thanked the fans for their support in both Rio de Janeiro and Uruguay, and highlighted that the situation could have It would be different if the team had been more efficient at Maracanã. Furthermore, he regretted the absence of Pedro and other important players for the team.

“For the fans, I can only thank you, firstly, for the support you gave at Maracanã in the first game. We scored early, at 13 in the first half. Afterwards, we had great dominance in both games. Today we are left with this bitter feeling, that we were unable to score a goal to take it to penalties. We even had a possibility, but we have to be self-critical and know that in the final decision we made a little mistake”, declared the goalkeeper, before completing.

“We lost Pedro, Cebola, Viña, Luiz, who are very important players for us. And this also remains in the player's mind. Because when a player sees that a teammate hurts, and hurts badly like it happened, we are also afraid of being out of the season”, he concluded.

Flamengo is now preparing to face Athletico-PR in the Brazilian Championship this Sunday (30th) at 8pm (Brasília time). The team becomes key after being eliminated in the Libertadores and needs to improve its performance to remain in the top positions and remain in the G4.
