The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that Cleber dos Santos is the new coach of the U20 team. In addition to the coach, Sandro Gomes also arrives, who will be his technical assistant.
The new coach takes over this Thursday (3), continuing work for the remainder of the season. Next Saturday (5), Flamengo has the first match of the Carioca Championship decision against Vasco and, if they qualify this Wednesday in the debut of the Copa do Brasil, they will have the knockout stages of the competition ahead of them. Still this year, the U20s will begin preparing for the 2025 São Paulo Junior Football Cup in December.
Cleber and Sandro were trained by Flamengo and are returning to the club. The coach spent time in the Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15, Under-17, Under-20 and professional football categories in 2017. Sandro specialized in physical preparation and performance analysis for the club, where he passed through the Under categories. -13, Under-14, Under-20 and professional football. The new members of the technical committee spoke about returning to Flamengo:
“For me, it is a great honor to return to Flamengo. The club in which I was formed, where I really learned what it means to honor the sacred mantle. I was able to participate here as a coach for all the youth categories and as a technical assistant for the professional category. I worked here at under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17, under-20 and we were fortunate to win titles in all these categories. I was able to really show what Flamengo DNA is. A team with a lot of aggression, focused on offensive play, attacking play, so that we can really train players with this philosophy”, said Cleber dos Santos, new Under-20 coach.
“I am very happy and honored with this return. This is a club where I feel truly at home and I've met many people here from my time there. The beginning was in physical preparation and then I moved to the performance analysis area, both working in the youth category. I worked on the under-13, under-14, under-20 and professional analysis” said Sandro Gomes celebrating his return to the Flamengo academy.
It still he added about the experiences he had in different areas and can help in the development of Garotos do Ninho:
“Nowadays, the performance of several areas within a technical committee is essential. The more knowledge we have, the more we can get out of it. For example, today you structure a team thinking about loads, how you will prepare the training linked to the technical and tactical part, which is performance analysis, in other words, it enhances”, he stated.
New ones Members of the U20 technical committee also praised the youth football module at the George Helal Training Center, Ninho do Urubu. Cleber dos Santos recalled that he was fortunate to debut the structure with the professional, and highlights what is now available for the work of athletes and technical committees.
“I had happy to be able to debut this module with the main team. It really is a professional structure already in the youth categories. The athletes feel very motivated and involved in this whole environment here that we intend to build in a very positive way”, said Cleber, who was followed by Sandro in his praise:
“I know it very well here and I was very happy to find the structure. I hadn't been here for three years, and I also saw some of the work they did. Here is a great environment to develop athletes and enhance the work of the coaching staff”, he commented.
The new Mengão's Under-20 coach and assistant will not be in the technical area this Wednesday (today), in the debut of the Copa do Brasil against Porto Vitória-ES, at 3pm, in Gávea. The team will be led by Raphael Bahia, who has been part of the category's technical committee since the beginning of 2024. Cleber dos Santos said, however, that he will be following the match and has already planned the first game against Vasco to win the Campeonato Carioca title. .
“A The expectation is very high to be able to do a great job. We have this game today in the Copa do Brasil. I will follow the match with coach Raphael Bahia directing the team, and as we go through there are other phases to play and already focusing on this final game on Saturday against Vasco, a classic of great relevance. On the morning of this Wednesday (17), Flamengo's young players took to the field to face Nova Iguaçu, in Gávea , for the delayed fourth round of the Taça Guanabara Sub-20. The match, broadcast by Flamengo TV , marked another performance by the world champion team over Barcelona at Maracanã.
Coach Bruno Pivetti fielded Léo Nannetti; Daniel Sales, Iago, João Victor, Gusttavo; João Alves, Pablo, Guilherme; Douglas Telles, Joshua, and Pedro Leão . Several athletes who shone in the world title were on the field, reinforcing the strength of the red-and-black squad in the category.
Despite Flamengo's favoritism, Nova Iguaçu showed organization and made life difficult for the home team . The first half ended in a 0-0 draw, with chances for both sides.
In the second half, Rubro-Negro pushed for a result and only managed to open the scoring in the 32nd minute, when defender Iago converted a penalty with a stoppage, repeating the composure displayed in the final against Barcelona. Nova Iguaçu maintained its consistent run of results in the competition. So far, the team hasn't lost a match by more than one goal : they fell to Vasco 2-1 and Botafogo 1-0. Against Flamengo, they once again suffered a heavy defeat.

Flamengo returns to the field this Wednesday (17) for the Under-20 Carioca Championship. The Crias do Ninho face Nova Iguaçu, at 10 am (Brasília time), in Gávea, in a match valid for the fourth round, previously postponed . The broadcast will be on FlamengoTV.
The match was originally scheduled for August 23, but had to be rescheduled due to Flamengo 's participation in the U-20 World Cup, a competition in which the red-black team beat Barcelona (ESP) and won the title.
After the international triumph, the team is looking to bounce back in the Carioca, having lost two consecutive matches to Vasco and Botafogo . Flamengo currently sits in fifth place with ten points, having won three, drawn two, and lost two.
Nova Iguaçu arrives buoyed by a 1-0 victory over Portuguesa at CT NIFC. The Baixada Fluminense team sits eighth in the standings with seven points and is looking for a win against the world champions to improve its position in the championship.
Mengão continues its restructuring of its youth teams and has signed a 1.94m tall goalkeeper, even though he is only 15 years old.

Flamengo has signed 15-year-old goalkeeper Nicolas, who previously played for Avaí. Born in February 2010, the young goalkeeper stands 6'4" tall and is projected to grow to 6'7" . According to the FlaZoeiro profile, Flamengo acquired 10% of the player's economic rights, with a purchase option of up to 70%. The transaction value was not disclosed.
Nicolas signed a youth development contract with Flamengo until December 2027 and will strengthen the under-15 team. The goalkeeper caught the attention of the Flamengo youth academy due to his technical and physical performance in Avaí's youth academy.
Going through a period of restructuring, Flamengo remains active in the youth academy market. Recently, the club won its second U-20 World Cup with a historic victory over Barcelona , and is already making significant changes to its roster.
Among the departures, midfielder Lorran was traded to Pisa (ITA), while Matheus Gonçalves signed with Al-Ahli (SAU). As for arrivals, Mais Querido signed striker Guilherme Barbosa , formerly of Internacional, and midfielder Kaio Júnior, who was at Juventude after a stint at Vasco.
