Flamengo announced last Thursday (25) the second reinforcement of the season, left-back Matías Viña. The player has already been integrated into the main squad in the United States. Atlético de San Luis officially announced, through its channels, the hiring of Domenéc Torrent as new coach. The 61-year-old Spanish coach has experience on the American continent, with spells at New York City (2018-2019) and Flamengo (2020).
Torrent had been without a club since his time at Galatasaray during the season 2021/2022, where he led the team in 19 matches. He takes over from Brazilian Gustavo Leal, who led the team to the Apertura semifinals in the Mexican Championship.
The new coach of Atlético de San Luis began his career at smaller clubs in Spain, such as Girona, before to become Pep Guardiola's assistant. He worked with Guardiola for ten years, accumulating a successful career at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
Despite his troubled spell at Flamengo, where he faced difficulties due to the pandemic, Guardiola defended Torrent's work. "Dome did a good job in terms of results for a new coach who didn't have time to train. It was an incredible experience for him in Brazil and in the Libertadores," said Guardiola.
