Last Saturday (27), Flamengo received encouraging news related to its squad. Journalist Monique Vilela highlighted that Athletico-PR, together with other Brasileirão clubs, is leading a movement to increase the limit of foreign players from 7 to 9 in matches.

As reported by Monique Vilela, the The proposal to increase the number of foreign players has already been presented to the CBF, and the clubs are now waiting for answers. Last year, the limit was raised from 5 to 7 athletes, and this mark can be increased again with the initiative led by Athletico-PR. The measure benefits Flamengo, which has a considerable contingent of non-Brazilian players in its squad.

Currently, Flamengo has 6 foreigners in the main team, in addition to a player over the age of under-20. Among them are Pulgar (Chile), Rossi (Argentina), Arrascaeta, Varela, De La Cruz and Viña (Uruguay), and Santiago Ocampos (Paraguay). As the Paraguayan has not been frequently included in the professional squad, the club is about to reach the limit of foreign players allowed.

Athletico-PR has two more foreign players than Flamengo. The red-black team from Paraná has Esquivel, Zapelli, Cuello, Arrigada and Cannobio, who were already in the squad the previous year.

In addition, for 2024, they signed Godoy, Mateo Gamarra and Romeo Benitez, totaling 8 foreigners in the squad. This way, one of the athletes could not be included in each match. It is worth noting that the CAP coach, Juan Carlos Osorio, being Colombian, does not count against the foreigners limit.
