Flamengo took the lead against Bahia in Salvador and secured an important 1-0 victory, with a goal from Bruno Henrique, in the first game of the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil. Now, under the command of Tite, Rubro-Negro enters the field this Thursday (12), at 9:45 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, needing only a draw to secure their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

The victory achieved away from home puts Flamengo at an advantage, but the team needs to remain alert. Although it has only lost twice by two goals in 2024, both against Botafogo (2-0 in April and 4-1 in August in the Brazilian Championship), a setback by that score against Bahia would eliminate the Rio team from the Copa do Brazil.

In other stumbles of the season, Flamengo was defeated by one goal difference — five times by 1-0 and three by 2-1 — in matches for the Brasileirão and Libertadores. The recent retrospective shows a solid team, but one that needs to avoid any inattention to remain firm in the search for another title.

PLAYERS WILL BE RE-EVALUATED BEFORE THE CONFRONTATION DECISIVE

For the decisive match, coach Tite still has concerns related to the physical condition of some players. Guillermo Varela and Erick Pulgar, who played 90 minutes for their national teams (Uruguay and Chile, respectively), will be re-evaluated by Flamengo's medical department to confirm whether they will be available.

In addition to them, Fabrício Bruno and Gerson, who were part of the Brazilian team in the 1-0 defeat to Paraguay, are also expected in the squad. Flamengo chartered a plane to speed up the athletes' return to Rio de Janeiro. Gerson played just 11 minutes, while Fabrício Bruno did not enter the field, which could facilitate the recovery of both for the match.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. Check it out:

"The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."

This Monday (16), rumors emerged involving Bahia's interest in signing Gabigol, striker from Mais Querido. According to the channel Paparazzo Rubro-Negro, Tricolor de Aço would have entered the dispute for Gabigol, who has a contract with Flamengojust until December this year. In addition to Bahia, clubs such as Corinthians, Cruzeiro, Grêmio, Palmeiras and Santos would also be keeping an eye on the player.

Despite the speculation, the Bahia board was quick to deny any ongoing negotiations to count on the shirt 99 from Mengão. According to the club's leadership, there is no intention of repeating an operation similar to that carried out with Everton Ribeiro.

BAHIA'S INTEREST IS DENIED BY THE BOARD< /b>

As soon as news of the supposed interest began to circulate, Bahia tried to clarify the situation. In a statement, the club's senior management stated that there are no negotiations to sign Gabigol for next season. The information of possible interest, therefore, was directly denied by Tricolor's directors.

Even so, the attacker remains one of the most targeted names in the transfer market for 2025, as he is in the final stretch of contract with Flamengoand you can now sign a pre-contract with any other team.

CORINTHIANS STAND OUT AS FAVORITE

With Bahia's denial, Corinthians remains the main favorite to sign Gabigol from next year. The possibility of the red-black striker wearing the Timão shirt gains strength, especially after coach Tite appointed Gabigol as the third option for Mengão's attacking command, behind Pedro and Bruno Henrique.
