The Flamengo lost Pedro for the remainder of the season, after the striker suffered a serious knee injury while on duty with the Brazilian national team. Thus, journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira commented on the options that Mais Querido has available in attack and pointed out that the board has to balance technical needs with financial standards.
In a debate that took place at program Canelada, from Jovem Pan Esportes, Mauro pointed out that the Flamengohas already invested a lot in the season. The journalist also highlights that when Rubro-Negro needs a center forward they must analyze the cost-benefit ratio to get it right.
MAURO INDICATES CHOUPO MOTING FOR FLAMENGOThus, during the debate, Mauro cited Cameroonian Choupo Moting, 35 years old, who played for Bayern Munich (ALE), and is without a club at the moment, as a good option to replace Pedro's absence.
“A This guy, if he's in shape, experienced, he'll help. You will have a man there in the area, as a reference, a strong attacker, to make a pivot, to prepare a move, to score a header, to deliver, and he has to be fast, so he has to be a ready player , right? And a short contract. If the guy accepts, you suddenly have an attempt at a solution to certain game scenarios. But, regardless of this, Tite has the obligation to find solutions with the squad that is in his hands”, he stressed.
SPECULATED PLAYERSSince Pedro's injury, many attackers are being speculated in Flamengo. Two names that gained strength were Choupo Moting and Anthony Martial, ex-Manchester United (ING). However, there is nothing concrete between the club and the center forwards.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Flamengo made the decision not to sign any striker to replace Pedro, who is injured. However, for journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, this choice by the red-black board is wrong. According to Mauro, the experienced Cameroonian center forward Choupo-Moting would be the ideal name to fill the number 9 role at Mengão. Choupo-Moting has been without a club since leaving Bayern Munich.
“I think the board made a mistake, they should have signed a center forward. Choupo-Moting was offered, who is a 35-year-old, experienced player, he didn't have a great season at Bayern Munich, but in the previous season he was scoring goals in the knockout stages of the Champions League. He's a player ready to get in there and play the role of Carlinhos", said Mauro, on UOL's Posse de Bola program.
Mauro Cezar also mentioned that the absence of a player like Choupo-Moting was missed in the 1-1 draw against Vasco at Maracanã. Flamengo created several opportunities, but were unable to convert them into goals.
“The board should have agreed to talk to the Cameroonian striker, try to sign a contract until the middle of the year. He is a much cheaper player than Martial, who is injured, hasn't played since December and is not a boxer. He is a striker with other characteristics. He can even play as a center forward, but he is more Gabriel than Pedro. Choupo-Moting is a man in the box, he was missed”, he concluded.
Without Choupo-Moting, Flamengo bets on Gabigol, Carlinhos and Bruno HenriqueFla's board decided not to invest in Choupo-Moting or Martial and prefers to trust Bruno Henrique, Gabigol and Carlinhos to make up for Pedro's absence. So far, Bruno Henrique has played improvised in the position, alongside Luiz Araújo in attack. Against Vasco, Carlinhos was called upon to enter the second half, while Gabigol had just over 15 minutes on the field.
