The spectacular turnaround of Flamengo in the 2019 Libertadores final will be forever etched in the memory of every fan and everyone who lived that moment. Eric Faria, TV Globo commentator present at Lima's Monumental Stadium, reports that, in his 25-year career, he has never seen a reaction like that of the fans after Gabigol's second goal.

“I've played a lot of football in my life, how do you know. But I think one of the games that I saw the most fans crying was Flamengo x River Plate. 'It's not shouting goals. It's catharsis. There are scenes where you say ‘My God. Look where football is going’. I've seen a lot of crying in stadiums, crying with sadness, crying with joy, crying with emotion, father with son. What I saw in Lima, I've never seen,” said Eric, in an interview with Flow Podcast.

HISTORICAL TURNING

Conmebol adopted the single final system in the Libertadores after 58 years and the first decision was precisely between Flamengoand River Plate. In the stadium full of red and black and Argentines, Mais Querido was behind on the scoreboard until the 89th minute of the match. Gabigol scored the first, which caused excitement in the stands and, when he scored the second goal, the title winner, two minutes later, the fans went into ecstasy and all the recordings and reports point to a lot of crying.

REACTION FROM FANS ALSO IMPRESSED EX - FLAMENGO

Another story similar to that of Eric Faria is that of the defender and ex - Flamengo Pablo Marí. The defender who marked the historic team of 2019 gave an interview a year after the victory and recalled his surprise at the reaction of the fans.

“When we scored the first goal, we heard everyone excited, celebrating the equalizing goal . But when the second passed, practically no one sang. I was in shock. We were winning, with just a few minutes to go, but you couldn't hear the crowd screaming. When the match ended, I called a friend and asked: “Did something happen with the second goal? Weren’t people excited?” He told me: ‘Pablo, they couldn’t celebrate because they were crying. The whole stand was crying’. Nobody could believe that we were winning the Libertadores”, said Pablo, in an interview in 2020.

Check it out:

Flamengo beat Amazonas 1-0 this Wednesday (22) and advanced to the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. Despite the classification, Rubro-Negro did not play a great game and was criticized by commentator Eric Faria. The journalist also cited Arrascaeta's bad game.

"Arrascaeta is very out of the game. When he is not well, Flamengo has difficulties, especially when facing teams that are well positioned in defense. He is the team's brain, he is the team's source of creativity", commented the journalist, at half-time.

"Flamengo scores very poorly, cannot put pressure on the attack and the recovery is very slow. In the uncertainty of scoring from above or behind, they don't do either. Flamengo didn't manage to mark Amazonas well today", said Eric, in the second half.

With the result, Flamengo secured a victory. place in the round of 16 of the competition. The team returns to the field for the Brasileirão on June 2nd and faces Vasco, in the 7th round. Before that, Rubro-Negro closes the group stage of the Libertadores, against Millonarios, on the 28th.
