Flamengo 's 2-0 victory over Grêmio last Sunday (13), in the third round of the Brazilian Championship , still generates repercussions off the field. This week, the CBF released a technical report clarifying two controversial incidents involving the match's refereeing, in response to complaints from the Rio Grande do Sul club.
The main complaint from Grêmio concerns a possible penalty that was not awarded when Flamengo was already winning 1-0. During the play, Braithwaite attempted a dribble and the ball ended up hitting Gerson 's arm inside the area. The referee, led by Ramon Abatti Abel , did not call a foul — a decision that was confirmed as correct by the Consultative Committee of International Experts (CCEI).
The CBF document, signed by names such as Nicola Rizzoli , Néstor Pitana and Sandro Ricci , highlighted that there was no penalty in the play with Gerson, as the ball hit unexpectedly after a deflection, and the player's arm was in a natural position, without expanding the body space.
Another incident analyzed was a dispute for the ball in the 14th minute of the first half . According to the committee, there was no foul in the play, since both the Flamengo defender and the Grêmio forward used their arms legally , without causing impact or committing an infraction. The meeting was also attended by Rodrigo Cintra , CBF's director of refereeing, and Fabrício Vilarinho , a member of the Referees' Committee.
Despite the controversies, Flamengo was superior on the pitch. With two goals from Arrascaeta , the team led by Filipe Luís won with authority in Porto Alegre and took the lead in the Brazilian Championship with seven points.
With the Brasileirão as a priority for the season, Flamengo is already preparing for the next round. On Wednesday (16), Rubro-Negro will host Juventude at Maracanã, starting at 9:30 pm (Brasília time). The match will be broadcast on open TV by Globo .

Fortaleza announced this Friday (1st) the amicable termination of the contract with defender David Luiz , who will now continue his career at Pafos FC , a team in the first division of Cyprus. The defender had signed with the Ceará club at the beginning of 2024, after ending his stint at Flamengo.
His departure comes after just 16 appearances for the Tricolor, 13 of which he started . His last appearance was on June 12th, in a 3-2 loss to Santos in the 12th round of the Brazilian Championship. On that occasion, David Luiz played the full 90 minutes.
His brief time at Fortaleza was marked by recurring physical problems , which, while not serious, prevented him from playing regularly. Even so, the 38-year-old opted to waive the remaining balance of his contract, which ran until the end of 2026, to accept the Cypriot football club's offer. His contract with Pafos FC will last three seasons.
With his move to Cyprus, David Luiz now has eight clubs in his career: Vitória, Benfica, Chelsea, PSG, Arsenal, Flamengo, Fortaleza and, now, Pafos. For Flamengo , the club he defended between 2021 and 2024, the defender played 132 matches , scored four goals and provided two assists. Matheus Gonçalves' fate is still up in the air. The young Flamengo player is in advanced negotiations with CSKA Moscow in Russia, but two other foreign teams have also expressed interest in signing him .
