Flamengo continues its search for the construction of its own stadium, focusing on the Gasmetro site located in the Port Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Negotiations with Caixa Econômica Federal have advanced, with the club willing to raise its initial proposal to acquire the space, estimated at R$250 million.
Marcos Bodin, one of Flamengo's directors, together with the team lawyers and experts in arena construction, is developing an “ideal project” to be presented to the land administrator.
President Rodolfo Landim's perspective is optimistic, receiving positive feedback that prompted the organization of a meeting with Caixa Econômica to discuss in detail the amounts involved. Rio's city hall, under the management of Eduardo Paes, also showed support for the project, promising to forward a law to the Chamber that would facilitate the transfer of the construction potential of Flamengo's headquarters, Gávea, strengthening the club's financial proposal.
Meanwhile, Maracanã still remains a fundamental piece for Flamengo, who are favorites, together with Fluminense, in the bid to manage the stadium for another 20 years. This plan contemplates the use of Maracanã in the first five years, the estimated period for the completion of the new stadium.

According to him, if the red-black club's new home really gets off the ground, it will have two sectors without seats, one behind each goal. The club's current president stated that he is inspired by the "general" of other arenas around the world, such as that of Signal Iduna Park, owned by Borussia Dortmund (ALE).
For Flamengo, which has its history absolutely linked to Maracanã, the "general" has great symbolism. In the old days of the stadium, the popular sector, without seats and located on the edge of the field, marked an era in Rio's football. Nowadays, the grandstand style has taken on new formats, but can still be seen in several arenas around the world, mainly in Germany.
Signal Iduna Park is a reference to modernism, without abandoning the "root" of the stands. Borussia Dortmund's home ground is known worldwide for the "yellow wall" sector, which is behind one of the goals. There is no separation into upper and lower stands, and the space has no chairs, which benefits the cauldron aesthetic. The yellow wall sector model is the most requested among Flamengo fans, for their possible new stadium.
