A debate on Tuesday's (6) edition of "Redação sportv" addressed the financial situation of the CBF and even generated a comparison with Flamengo , generated by journalist Rodrigo Capelo . It all started with the information that the CBF had R$2.4 billion in cash at the end of 2024, a number R$1.4 billion higher than a year earlier. At this time, the entity continues to search for a coach for the National Team .
Naturally, Marcelo Barreto and Belle Suárez, who were part of the bench, began to debate possible ways of using the money to improve Brazilian football.
An increase of R$ 1.4 billion
"At the end of 2023, the CBF had R$1 billion in cash, which was already a lot. At the end of 2024, the CBF had R$2.4 billion in cash, an increase of R$1.4 billion. How much does it cost to professionalize referees? It doesn't matter, right, because the CBF has money," he said.
Known for its financial health, Flamengo was mentioned in the conversation as a way of providing a better-known parameter of the fortune accumulated by the CBF.
"Just to make a comparison, to have a parameter. Flamengo, which is one of the clubs that has the most cash in hand, because this is not a habit for clubs, ended 2024 with R$92 million in hand ," he analyzed.
When comparing the two funds, Rubro-Negro does not even compare to the amount accumulated by the CBF, which makes it clear: the problem with Brazilian football, at least at this moment, is not the lack of money to invest.
"R$92 million, which means that the CBF's savings are equivalent to 26 Flamengos . Flamengo has to pay player salaries, the football activity itself — with travel, accommodation, a series of costs. The CBF doesn't have to pay any of that," he explained.
Capelo then explained a little more about the destination of the CBF's money , which is divided between national teams, the structure of Brazilian football itself and the federations of each state.
" The CBF has to pay its own salaries and those of its executives, right? Make payments to the presidents of the federations. In addition to, obviously, supporting the men's and women's national teams, as well as the youth teams . There are a series of costs involved, but they are very low," he highlighted.
According to the analyst, the main reason for the cash explosion was the renewal with Nike , which provides for the traditional annual payment and other bonuses.
" The CBF had been accumulating cash for many years . But there is an additional explanation in this case, which is the renewal with Nike. Nike signed, in November of last year, an extension of its contract, which now runs until 2038" , he commented.

Flamengo held a training session at Ninho do Urubu on Wednesday afternoon (17) with the entire squad on the field. In addition to announcing the schedule, Conmebol announced this Tuesday (16) a new feature for the quarterfinal stage. From this stage onwards, the main referees will immediately communicate their decisions to the entire public present at the stadium, increasing the transparency of the arbitration process.
