Gabigol's 2024 is not good at all. As a reserve with Tite at the start of the season, the player was suspended for two years for allegedly attempting to cheat an anti-doping test. Flamengo, however, remains hopeful that the penalty will be suspended and that the number 10 will be able to play this year. However, the club has already moved behind the scenes and signed striker Carlinhos, from Nova Iguaçu.
The one who spoke about the matter was the former red and black number 10, Diego Ribas was not above the wall and came to Gabi’s defense. Ribas, was present at the Fut Summit 2024 event and commented on Gabigol's case. The two were teammates during their Flamengo days. Furthermore, the striker has in the former midfielder a captain and idol reference, due to the history also built at Santos.
“I believe that there may have been some errors, perhaps, in behavior or something. I didn't really delve into everything that happened. I know Gabi, I trust his character a lot. I'm sure, and then I can say with certainty, that he didn't do anything to mask any kind of thing, any prohibited substance that he ingested, because that definitely didn't happen. So it is important to put this in the balance, and that this situation can be resolved as soon as possible”, he said.
Starting of the selection with Dorival Júnior
Still at the event, Diego was asked about the beginning of the Brazilian National Team's work under the command of Dorival Júnior. The two were champions of the Copa do Brasil and the 2022 Libertadores at Flamengo.
“(I see) it with good eyes. I think Dorival arrived at the national team very well prepared, in all aspects. He has done an exceptional job. We are in a process of reformulation, it takes patience, humility and, at the same time, a lot of courage to do what needs to be done. Dorival is having success and what lies ahead is promising. I have great confidence that we will once again be the competitive and victorious team that we have always been”, concluded Diego Ribas.
The coach had a frustrating job at Mengão and spoke out about his time in Brazilian football, where he also coached Corinthians.

The current coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers (ENG), Portuguese Vítor Pereira, previously managed Corinthians and Flamengo in Brazil. Despite a strong campaign with the São Paulo club, the coach failed to win over the red-and-black fans and ended up having a stint marked by criticism . In an interview with ESPN, the coach spoke about his experience in the country.
Vítor Pereira on his time at Flamengo and in Brazil: "If I had a crystal ball to know the future"
"(My time in Brazil was) a life experience. We're always changing. If I had a crystal ball to predict the future, I would change something in my life. I made the decisions I felt I had to do, the decisions I had to make, " said Vítor Pereira.
He then added: "And they're part of life and our growth. I think we grow a lot in the moments when we're under pressure, when we suffer. I've had beautiful moments in Brazil and moments of suffering . It's part of football," the coach concluded.
Vítor Pereira arrived at Flamengo at the beginning of 2023, after the board, then chaired by Rodolfo Landim, opted to leave Dorival Júnior , coach who won the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil in 2022. In charge of Rubro-Negro, Pereira lasted only three months.
In 18 matches, they recorded 10 wins, seven losses, and one draw, but suffered setbacks in every competition they competed in. Flamengo finished runner-up in the Carioca (losing to Fluminense), the Brazilian Super Cup (Atlético-MG), and the South American Recopa (Independiente del Valle) , as well as finishing third in the Club World Cup.
