Between June 14th and July 13th 2025, the FIFA Super World Cup promises to bring together the best club teams in a tournament that, for the first time, will feature consecutive clashes between teams from different continents. Flamengo is part of group D with Chelsea (ING), Espérance (TUN) and León (MEX). See how each opponent starts the year:

Espérance (TUN)

O Espérance, current Tunisian champion, occupies the 5th place in the National Championship, with 26 points in 13 games. The team has accumulated seven wins, five draws and only one defeat. Despite an irregular start, they could reduce the gap to leaders Monastir to just one point if they win the game late.

In the African Champions League, the club leads Group D, with seven points from four matches , tied with Pyramids (EGI). The team, however, suffered its first defeat in 2025 in the last game, after being beaten by Pyramids themselves 2-1. Now, Espérance focuses on the clash against Monastir, leader of the championship, next Saturday (11).

Chelsea (ENG)

O Chelsea is experiencing a season of ups and downs in the English Championship, occupying4th place, with 36 points in 20 games (10 wins, six draws and four defeats). After an eight-match unbeaten run, the Blues are facing a difficult time, without winning in their last four games.

The club was also eliminated in the round of 16 of the English League Cup by Newcastle b> (2-0) and is now preparing for their debut in the FA Cup against Morecambe, from the fourth division. In the Conference League, Chelsea shone in the League Stage, winning all six games and advancing in first place.

Their last clash was the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, last Saturday (4). The team returns to the field on January 11th, against Morecambe, in the FA Cup.

León (MEX)

The León has not yet debuted in the 2025 season, as the Championship Mexicano starts on January 19, with the opening game against Atlas. In the last edition of Clausura, the club had a modest performance, finishing in 11th place, with 18 points in 17 games (three wins, nine draws and five defeats).

Classified for the Super World Cup thanks to the title of Concachampions 2023, León will not compete in the edition of 2025 of the continental competition, after a season of below-expected performance. On the national stage, clubs such as Cruz Azul, Monterrey, Tigres and Chivas Guadalajara will represent Mexico.

Flamengo's path in the Super World Cup

With opponents varying in style and strength, Flamengo will face an experienced defense from Espérance, tactical consistency Chelsea and León's irregular performance. It will be essential to start the tournament with full force, as the competition brings new challenges and many expectations.

Friday (15) was marked by a press conference with Arrascaeta, at Ninho do Urubu. The Uruguayan midfielder made strong statements about the club's backstage and even repeated a famous phrase from Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese coach who marked an era at Flamengo.

Arrascaeta quotes Jorge Jesus: "Flamengo only loses to itself"

CRITICISM OF DESPERATE PROFESSIONALS

Without directly mentioning the coach, Arrascaeta emphasized that internal problems often harm the club's atmosphere . The Uruguayan also made it clear that he will always stand by his teammates in situations where unprepared professionals could harm them:

"I often tell my friends that Flamengo only loses to itself, because it's difficult to explain some of the things that happen here. Sometimes it's due to a lack of capacity from people who don't realize the size of the club or who aren't used to dealing with this pressure . But when you have experienced and respected players like Alex Sandro, Bruno, Nico, Viña, and so many others, the group becomes stronger," said the number 10.

"Whatever happens outside won't affect our squad. We'll always be together. When something happens to a teammate, we'll be here to help," Arrascaeta assured. The statement alludes to the controversy surrounding former doctor José Luiz Runco, who was fired after exposing details of De La Cruz's physical condition , claiming the Uruguayan was living with an irreversible chronic injury.

SUPPORT FOR DE LA CRUZ

At the time, Arrascaeta posted a photo alongside De La Cruz, accompanied by the message: " It's about taking care of our own. It's that simple ." The gesture was interpreted as a dig at the former professional, as well as a pat on the back for his club and national team friend.

Now, at the press conference, the number 10 reinforced the importance of squad unity in the face of external turbulence: "Regardless of who it is, Nico or another player, we have to be together. It's very difficult to stay focused on the field when these situations happen. But I've been here for six years and I know that Flamengo always experiences moments like this. Our role is to keep ourselves in the locker room so that this doesn't affect us, even though some situations are very difficult," he concluded.
