Next Thursday (15), Flamengo will return to play for the Libertadores in a round of 16 duel against Bolívar, at 9:30 pm, at Maracanã. For the duel, Conmebol defined Wilmar Roldán as the main referee. The 44-year-old Colombian has already been in charge of several Flamengo duels and some do not bring back good memories. Roldán refereed the elimination of Rubro-Negro in the 2023 Libertadores against Olimpia, in Paraguay.

Another bad moment for the club in which the referee was involved was in the final of the Copa Sudamericana, in 2017, in the game of Maracanã. On that occasion, Roldán scored a controversial penalty from Cuellar that took away Flamengo's possible title.

In an interview with Canal Pilhado on Youtube, Cuéllar revealed a lot of hurt since that moment and stated that to this day, two years later he still believes that the shot wasn't a penalty and that he believes that referee Wilmar Roldán was hasty.

— If I see this guy on the street, I don't know what I'm going to do with him. But it was something that left an impression on me, because contact is part of it. If I don't have any intention, I may even be reckless, but so far I don't think it was a penalty, so this episode stands out for me. It's part of football – he said.

After the statement, the Colombian was asked what he would do if he bumped into Roldán on the streets and he didn't hesitate to respond, stating that the referee had an impact on his life.< /p>

— I don't know, I'd spit in his face, I'd punch him, I don't know... but there's a lot ahead of him and I'm definitely going to meet him and I'm going to think about what I'm going to do to avoid having so many repercussions . I said at the end (of the game) ‘Go get the medal because you were champion with them’. That's what I said and I was suspended for two rounds of the Libertadores because of it. This guy stood out in my life because he's Colombian, by the way, he's a hell of a tough guy – said Cuéllar.

In short, in addition to Wilmar Roldán, the game will also feature Colombians Jhon Leon and David Fuentes, as assistants, and Chilean Juan Lara as responsible for VAR.

The expectation is for a full house for the confrontation between Flamengoand Peñarol, valid for the Copa Libertadores, next Thursday (19). According to information, the North and South sectors of the Maracanã stadium are already sold out, confirming the great interest of fans for this important game. To date, around 35,000 tickets have been sold, but the total number of people present could reach 55,000, including freebies and amenities. This reflects the enormous mobilization of the red and black fans, who promise to transform the stadium into a true cauldron to support the team.

Playing in a packed Maracanã always brings a difference to Flamengo, especially in international competitions, such as to Libertadores. The red and black fans are known for their passion and intensity, factors that usually drive the team on the field. This scenario puts the team in an advantageous situation, since playing with the support of thousands of people can be a decisive factor in important games like this.

FLAMENGO HAS THE SUPPORT OF THE FANS

The team coach, as well as the players, often highlight the role of the fans in home games. A full Maracanã is a challenging environment for opponents, and Flamengousually benefits from the atmosphere, achieving important results in past competitions. Despite the favorable scenario for Flamengo, the confrontation against Peñarol will not be easy. The Uruguayan team is traditional in South America and has a successful history in the Libertadores, being one of the most respected clubs on the continent.

Facing a team of this caliber requires attention and strategy, especially in decisive group stage games, where every point can make the difference in qualifying for the next stage. Flamengo will need to balance the fans' excitement with the need to maintain focus and tactical discipline. Matches like this, with a large audience and high expectations, can easily divert the players' attention if there is not total concentration.

In recent weeks, Flamengohas been facing a worrying sequence of injuries among its players. In a period of approximately one month, four of the club's athletes needed to undergo surgery, which raises an alarm in the team both in relation to physical preparation and planning for the season.

The first to face surgery it was Everton Cebolinha, on August 14th. The attacker suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in his left ankle. This injury is known to require a long recovery period, with forecasts ranging from six to eight months before returning to the field. This means that Cebolinha will be out of action for a large part of the season, which directly impacts Flamengo's planning.

THE CLUB SUFFERS FROM INJURIES

No The following day, on August 15, Uruguayan left-back Guillermo Varela also underwent surgery after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Cruciate ligament injuries are one of the most serious and feared in football, as the recovery time is usually long, generally between six to nine months. Varela's case, similar to that of Cebolinha, represents a weightlessness for the squad.

Just less than a month later, on September 13th, it was striker Pedro's turn to go through the same situation as Varela. The player suffered an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, another serious injury that requires months of recovery and intensive physiotherapy care. Pedro is one of the main players of Flamengo, and his absence will certainly bring challenges for the team in the remainder of the season.

Finally, on September 16th, Luiz Araújo closed the list of Flamengo athletes who needed surgery in a short period of time. The player suffered a fractured cartilage in his right knee, an injury that also requires surgery and a significant recovery time, varying from three to six months, depending on the severity and the body's response to treatment.
