Flamengo is about to announce the signing of Ecuadorian Gonzalo Plata as its fourth reinforcement in the current transfer window. The agreement with Al-Sadd, from Qatar, has been finalized, and the Rio club is just waiting for the return of the signed contract to make the player's arrival official. Plata will sign with Rubro-Negro until December 2028.
NEGOTIATION DETAILS
Flamengo will initially pay US$ 4.25 million (around R$24 million) to acquire more than 30% of Gonzalo Plata's economic rights. The remainder will be acquired progressively, as the player reaches goals stipulated in the contract.
The total operation, so that Flamengo has 100% of the player's rights, will be closed at US$9.1 million (approximately R$51.9 million). Furthermore, Al-Sadd guaranteed a 30% profit on a possible future sale of the athlete.
LONG NEGOTIATION AND EXPECTATIONS p>
The negotiation for the young 23-year-old player, revealed by Independiente del Valle and with spells at Sporting-POR and Valladolid-ESP, was the longest of this transfer window. Although an agreement was almost reached on the 23rd, changes in the conditions proposed by Al-Sadd required new adjustments. The initial forecast was that Plata would disembark in Rio de Janeiro by August 25th, but the process was prolonged due to these impasses.
GONZALO PLATA'S PERFORMANCE LAST SEASON
Last season, Gonzalo Plata, playing for Al-Sadd, scored 12 goals and provided eight assists. With his arrival, Flamengo hopes to further reinforce its squad for the remainder of the season, seeking titles on both the national and international scene.

Bayer Leverkusen's target has been Filipe Luís, who has rejected Flamengo's first contract renewal offer . The initial obstacle stems from the young coach's salary , as he remains in talks with the Flamengo board.
According to journalist Fabrício Lopes of the newspaper O Dia, in addition to a salary increase, Filipe Luís is asking for improvements to his coaching staff and the club's training center . These demands are central to the current negotiations.
Despite Bayer Leverkusen 's (GER) interest, there is optimism behind the scenes that the parties will reach an agreement soon. Filipe Luís's priority is to remain in Brazil until at least 2027 , continuing the work he began in his first season as coach.
Currently, the coaching staff led by Filipe Luís receives approximately R$800,000 per month , a figure far from the top salaries paid in Brazilian soccer. According to Jorge Nicola, Palmeiras' Abel Ferreira leads the rankings with R$3 million per month, followed by Corinthians' Dorival Jr., who earns approximately R$2 million.
In charge of the Rio de Janeiro club, Filipe Luís has played 63 official matches, winning 43, drawing 16, and losing only six . In 2024, he won the Copa do Brasil and, this year, leads the Brazilian Championship with Flamengo , cementing a promising start to his coaching career.
Even after the end of the transfer window, the red-black board continues to keep an eye on the market and sees Lazio's Argentine striker as a priority.

Flamengo remains active behind the scenes, even after the last transfer window closed. The Rio de Janeiro club was one of the biggest investors in Brazilian football this year, with high-profile signings , but failed to secure the arrival of a more mobile center forward, which was one of the board's main goals.
Among the names considered was Argentine Taty Castellanos , currently with Lazio in Italy. Talks progressed at one point, but the Italian team refused to release the striker for negotiations.
According to the portal The Laziale, Flamengo has once again placed Castellanos among its strategic targets for 2026. The expectation is that the red-black board will make a new attempt to sign him in January , during the pre-season.
At 26, the striker is seen as a market opportunity and, according to the publication, would be willing to return to South America . He also welcomes the possibility of playing for Flamengo in the near future.
While monitoring the international market, coach Filipe Luís is expected to once again rely on striker Juninho. The player, who was close to leaving the team this summer, ended up staying and should gain more space in the squad rotation throughout the season.
Manchester United midfielder expected to end his stint in England after the 2026 World Cup, and is already attracting interest from Brazilian giants

Casemiro's name has once again been buzzing around Brazilian football. According to journalist Jorge Nicola, Flamengo and Palmeiras have conducted inquiries to assess the situation of the Manchester United midfielder , who is expected to end his career with the English club after the 2026 World Cup . At 33, the athlete is considered a top prospect due to his leadership, international experience, and track record in major competitions.
O Mais Querido sees Casemiro as an ideal fit for the squad: a decisive player in important matches, with international experience and a solid leadership record. The club has a tradition of investing in renowned athletes who arrive to elevate the team's competitive level , such as Filipe Luís, David Luiz, and, more recently, Jorginho.
Despite the interest, the club's board remains cautious . This is because, even if they agree to a salary reduction, the midfielder's financial position is still high by Brazilian soccer standards.
Casemiro also maintains a strong connection with São Paulo, the club that introduced him to football. According to Jorge Nicola, this gratitude could influence a future decision. " Casemiro has never hidden his gratitude to São Paulo, which could influence a future choice ," the journalist noted on his channel.
The midfielder's contract runs until mid-2026, but he's likely to play only one more season in England. Nicola revealed that his annual salary of approximately €11 million makes it difficult for him to stay at United, increasing the chances of him returning to Brazil or accepting offers from other markets.
