Flamengo under-20 scored two consecutive victories in the Brasileirão Under-20 and is recovering from a bad start. After a week of training, the Garotos do Ninho visit Atlético-MG this Thursday (16), at 9:30 pm, and defender João Victor Souza shows confidence after good preparation and minimizes the away game in the search for three more points.

“We know the difficulty of the match. It's a very important game to be able to continue fighting for the top of the table. There isn't much interference when it comes to playing away from home, we are prepared. We had an excellent week. And now it’s time to do well so we can gain three more points and continue fighting in the championship”, said the jewel of the red and black base.

Youngest under-20 player, aged 17 in January, João Souza was a starter in Flamengo's two consecutive victories, against Santos and Cruzeiro. The defender is considered a jewel of the youth categories, and the tendency is for coach Mario Jorge to keep the young man in the starting 11 against Atlético-MG.

Flamengo occupies eighth place in the Brasileirão U20 with nine points, the result of three wins and two defeats. A victory against the team from Minas Gerais, in 12th place, could see Rubro-Negro climb up to four positions and finish the round in the G4. Remembering that the top eight qualify after 19 rounds, and better placement guarantees a command and crossing advantage against worse placed teams.

Mario Jorge does not have midfielders Rayan Lucas and Fabiano for this Thursday's clash, both of whom are suspended . There are names that could play for the under-20s, but are available to professionals: Lorran, Matheus Gonçalves* and Dyogo Alves.

Next game and classification in the Brasileirão U-17 2024

Flamengo's next match in the Brasileirão U-17 is a classic against Botafogo, next Monday Monday (8), at 3pm, in Gávea. Unlike the clash with Atlético, which was not broadcast, the game against the rival must be shown on SporTV and Fla TV.

The Brazilian Under-17 has 20 teams, divided into two groups of 10 each . In the first phase, the clubs in each group play against each other in a single round and the best four qualify for the knockout stage. Therefore, with three points already tied at the top of Group A, Mengão needs to continue adding points to guarantee a better classification.

Group A: Flamengo, Athletico-PR, América- MG, Atlético-GO, Botafogo, Ceará Corinthians, Goiás, Grêmio and Santos Group B:Atlético-MG, Bahia, Cuiabá, Cruzeiro, Fortaleza, Fluminense, Internacional, Red Bull Bragantino, Palmeiras and São Paulo

The next phase will be defined with an Olympic crossing. In other words, the best ranked team (1st) takes the worst ranked team from the other group (4th) and so on.

Flamengo always keeps an eye on the market in search of strengthening and capturing talent for the youth categories. Thus, after the end of the Copa Rio U-15, Rubro-Negro signed Rafa Tenório, Resende's number 10.

After observing Rafa Tenório's performance in the Copa Rio, Flamengo acted quickly and signed the athlete. According to Coluna do Fla, the midfielder signed a three-year contract with Mengão, that is, until 2027. The 15-year-old athlete has already started activities with the Fla squad this Wednesday (03), at CT Ninho do Urubu.

Rafa was one of the main players in the Copa Rio U15. The midfielder scored ten goals and, with that, became the tournament's second top scorer. It is important to emphasize that the athlete reached this mark even with Resende only playing in the first phase of the championship.

Rafa Tenório is 15 years old and is a resident of Volta Redonda. And it was precisely on the team in the city where he lives that the athlete began to take his first steps in football. With good performances for the team from the south of the state of Rio de Janeiro, the midfielder caught Flamengo's attention.

First of all, this will be Rafa Tenório's second stint in the Rubro-Negro youth categories . After that, the young man transferred to Fluminense and, finally, arrived at Resende, where he was the team's number 10 during the Copa Rio U-15.

After the 4-2 victory over Atlético-MG, at Arena MRV, in Belo Horizonte, in the 14th round of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo's football manager, Luiz Carlos Azevedo, made a statement this Wednesday ( 3), criticizing the performance of the arbitration. The director highlighted two moves involving the video referee (VAR), which, according to him, harmed Flamengo.

Azevedo mentioned a penalty in favor of Atlético, scored with the help of VAR, and another move that he claims to have been ignored by the arbitration. In the first case, Hulk scored Atlético's goal with a penalty when Flamengo was already winning 3-0. In the second case, a possible penalty in the 41st minute of the second half was not signaled.

"I come here today, again, in order to be able, after a victory, a great victory for the team, against a great opponent, to understand the VAR criteria again. The arbitration committee has received our board, there is dialogue, but again in our understanding Flamengo. was harmed", said Azevedo.

PENALTY ANALYSIS IN FAVOR OF ATLÉTICO

About the penalty awarded for Atlético, Azevedo declared: "If it was Allan's penalty, which in our understanding it wasn't. Our athlete touches the ball first, in a continuous act of movement he has contact with the athlete from the opposing team, the field referee doesn't mark it, and simply the VAR calls to be able to award the penalty". Ramon Abatti Abel (Fifa-SC) was the referee of the match.

QUESTIONS ABOUT VAR

THE The director also questioned the failure to award a penalty in favor of Flamengo. In the 41st minute of the second half, Atletico midfielder Otávio allegedly tackled Erick Pulgar, from Flamengo. "I wanted to understand what VAR's criteria were in not awarding the penalty against Erick. There is no contact from the opposing team's athlete on the ball, our athlete is tripped, falls, and VAR simply doesn't call it", added Azevedo.
