0With 12 titles won by Flamengo, goalkeeper César Bernardo faced an unusual situation in his career at 32 years old. After not having his contract renewed by Boavista (POR) in June, the archer was re-signed by the same team in September due to serious injuries suffered by the team's two main goalkeepers.
Last Tuesday (10) , goalkeepers João Gonçalves, starter, and Luis Pires, reserve, tore their anterior cruciate knee ligament during training and are out of action until the end of 2024. Furthermore, Boavista is banned by FIFA from signing new players due to debts, which opened up the possibility for César, who was without a contract, to return to the club.
Now, the former Flamengo player joins young players Tomás Maçães and Cristiano Bacci, both 17 years old. In his first spell at the Portuguese club, which lasted two years, César participated in just six matches.
Despite Boavista's critical situation Regarding the goal, César remained on the bench this Monday (16). In the fifth round of Series A of the Portuguese Championship, the former Flamengo goalkeeper was an option, while Tomás Maçães started the match. Boavista drew 2-2 away from home against Estrela Amadora (POR).
César is among the biggest winners of the history of Flamengo, behind only Zico and Junior, who have 13 titles each. The goalkeeper was part of the club's following achievements: Libertadores (2019), Recopa (2020), Brasileirãos (2019 and 2020), Copa do Brasil (2013), Supercopa (2020) and Cariocas (2011, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021).

0Created from the Flamengo academy, goalkeeper César is the new player for Boavista, from Portugal, just after leaving the Portuguese club. The 32-year-old archer played for the team last season, without having his contract renewed, however, after problems in the squad, the board “went back” and agreed to the player's return.
The change of mind on the part of of Boavista and the maintenance of César was due to injuries to the squad's two main goalkeepers, who will have long recovery dates.
Currently, Boavista finds itself in a huge financial crisis, sunk in debt, which has generated punishment regarding the signing of new players. And so there was another reason to bring back the ex-Flamengo goalkeeper, as the signing was treated as a contract renewal, not a transfer.
Even with their two best goalkeepers injured, Boavista still had an option in the squad. Goalkeeper Tomé Sousa, 17 years old, is considered one of the great promises of the position not only in Portuguese territory, but also in Europe.
And yet, with a true jewel in hand, the team's management chose to place his votes of confidence in Caesar. In two years at Boavista, César played in just six games as a starter, and will have his golden chance after a period away from Flamengo.
With Manto Rubro-Negro, César played 62 games, most of which were between 2017 and 2019, where he alternated between starting and being on the bench. After leaving Mais Querido, he also passed through Bahia, before disembarking in Portugal P>
