After six and a half seasons at Flamengo, Everton Ribeiro will go through a rare situation in his career: he will face Mengão. This Thursday (20), Bahia's number 10 will go to Maracanã to face Rubro-Negro. The midfielder hadn't played against Mais Querido since 2014, that is, since then, a lot has changed in the world of football.
The last time Everton Ribeiro faced Flamengo was on June 1st 2014, when the midfielder played for Cruzeiro. In the duel held at the Parque do Sabiá Stadium, in Uberlândia, the home team won 3-0, with a goal from the player who would later make history at Mengão.
Flamengo, on that occasion, entered on the field with Paulo Victor, Léo Moura, Chicão, Wallace and Samir; Amaral, Márcio Araújo, Luiz Antônio and Guilherme Negueba; Paulinho and Alecsandro. The red-and-black coach was Ney Franco. At the time, both teams were coming off national titles, as Cruzeiro won the 2013 Brazilian Championship, and Mengão won the Copa do Brasil the previous year.

So, ten years ago, the world was completely different from what it is today. Owner of just one Libertadores title in that game, Flamengo currently has three titles, with the help of Everton Ribeiro in the 2019 and 2022 victories. Since then, Mengão has won 13 cups in total. On the other hand, Vasco already had two relegations under its belt (2008 and 2013), but would double the shame, with the falls of 2015 and 2020.
Also at the time of Everton Ribeiro's last game against Flamengo, Brazil lived with the expectation of winning the sixth World Cup, in the tournament that would be played at home. However, just over a month later, the Seleção would suffer the biggest defeat in history, 7-1 to Germany, in the semi-final.

With 11 titles, Everton Ribeiro is in Flamengo's history. In total, there were two Libertadores, two Brasileiros, one Copa do Brasil, one Recopa, two Supercups and three Cariocas. At the end of 2023, the club decided not to renew the player, who is now 35 years old, and the midfielder signed with Bahia.

Flamengo begins its journey towards the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores this Thursday (18) . The first leg against Estudiantes (ARG) will be held at Maracanã, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), and will have a full house.
All tickets were sold in advance, guaranteeing an estimated attendance of around 69,000. The expectation is that the Red-Black Nation will fill every section of the stadium , transforming the Maracanã into a cauldron to push the team toward victory.
The team will have important reinforcements. Striker Bruno Henrique and full-back Varela , who were absent last Sunday (14) against Juventude, in the Brazilian Championship , trained normally this Tuesday (16) and should be available to the coach again.
Despite their returns, Rubro-Negro will remain without midfielder Jorginho, full-back Alex Sandro, and defensive midfielder Pulgar , who are still recovering. The likely lineup for the game includes: Rossi; Royal (Varela), Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira, Ayrton Lucas (Viña); Saúl, De La Cruz (Allan), Arrascaeta; Plata, Samuel Lino, and Pedro.
Fans will be able to watch the match live on ESPN (pay TV) and Disney+ (streaming). The second leg will be held next week in La Plata, Argentina, and will determine who advances to the semifinals.
Signed at zero cost, the Spaniard quickly gained a place in Mais Querido, receiving praise from the Spanish press for his recent performances.

Despite being signed only in the last transfer window, Saúl Ñíguez has already become one of the most important players in Flamengo's squad . The Spanish midfielder arrived at the club on a free transfer and quickly established himself in the starting lineup.
Spanish newspaper Marca highlighted the athlete's rapid adaptation. " The former Atlético de Madrid player arrived at Flamengo with the mission of becoming an important player and maintaining a prominent role in the starting lineup . His adaptation didn't take long," the publication reported.

Sesc Flamengo already has a full squad ready to begin its preparations for the season's main competitions. Last Monday (15), the club welcomed names eagerly awaited by the fans: winger Helena , opposite Tainara, middle blocker Lorena and libero Laís, bronze medalists at the World Championships in Thailand, as well as Serbian middle blocker Maša Kirov, who also played in the Asian tournament and is one of the group's new additions.
While coach Bernardinho leads the Brazilian men's national team at the World Cup in the Philippines, the Rio de Janeiro team is under the command of assistant Helio Griner.
