After suffering trauma to his right knee during the match against Amazonas, last Wednesday, midfielder Nicolás de La Cruz, 26, was evaluated by Flamengo's medical department. The situation initially caused concern at the club, but after receiving treatment on the bench with ice applied to the affected area, the player returned to Rio without the need for further treatment.

De La Cruz, who was replaced in the 22nd minute of the second half in Manaus, it was already reevaluated this Friday and is not a concern for Flamengo's next commitment of the season. The Rio club will face Millonarios, in the Libertadores, next Tuesday, at Maracanã.

DECISION AHEAD

Flamengo will face Millonarios next Tuesday, at 9 pm (Brasília time), in a crucial match for the Libertadores. A victory will guarantee Rubro-Negro's classification for the round of 16 of the continental tournament.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Nicolás de La Cruz, Flamengo's main reinforcement for the current season, has been one of the team's highlights in 2024. With 23 games played, the 26-year-old midfielder scored two goals and provided three assists, contributing significantly to the team's performance.

Due to the change of dates in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil, Vasco takes action at the STJD

Vasco da Gama filed a lawsuit last Monday (30) at the Superior Court of Justice Desportiva (STJD) against changing the second leg games of the Copa do Brasil semi-finals. In this sense, the club fulfills the "threat" made by President Pedrinho.

Previously, the Vasco board was consulted about a possible change and responded negatively. However, even with the refusal, the CBF changed the return game, in São Januário (RJ), from the base date of October 17th to October 20th. The trip, to Arena MRV (MG), will be this Wednesday (2).

Both Atlético-MG and Flamengo were in favor of the change due to Data FIFA. Rubro-Negro's opponent will be Corinthians, who also showed their opposition, as did Vasco. The duel between them will take place on the 2nd and 19th of October.

Cruzmaltino understands that Atlético and Fla will benefit from this decision because players from the two clubs defending national teams will have more rest time; the FIFA Date runs until October 15th. President Pedrinho stated last weekend that Vasco played in an identical situation, with some players returning in the early hours of the day of the game against Athletico (in the quarterfinals). The club also interprets that the change in dates violates the rules, which motivated the preparation of the action in the STJD.

What is Vasco based on?

Vasco is based on articles from the General Competition Regulations (RGC) of the CBF to go to the STJD:

"It is the responsibility of the DCO... to prepare and enforce the Annual Calendar of Competitions and their respective tables";

"The call-up of athletes to join national teams does not guarantee their clubs the right to change the dates of their matches in competitions";

The parties that can request a change in the date of a match are: home club, sending federation or holder of broadcasting rights. Vasco claims that the request came from the visitors (Atlético-MG).

The elimination of Flamengo in the Libertadores, against Peñarol away from home, intensified the pressure on Tite. However, in addition to criticism of the coach, other names have been mentioned by fans and journalists. Mauro Cezar Pereira, for example, harshly criticized Arrascaeta and Nico de la Cruz.

Mauro not only questioned Arrascaeta's behavior, but also his performance in recent years, suggesting that the Uruguayan has not been playing his best football . He even made a pun on the player's name. Furthermore, the journalist mentioned De La Cruz, questioning the physical form of the former River Plate player.

“Arrascaeta has been dragging on for years. Maybe Lil Gabi could even make some rhymes with it. Arrasca drags on. And De La Cruz looks like he's nailed to the cross. He also drags on, he is never in shape. What happens? Who questions? It seems like no one,” said Mauro Cezar Pereira on UOL’s Posse de Bola.

It’s worth remembering that both Arrascaeta and De La Cruz played in familiar territory. The elimination of Flamengo took place in Uruguay, and the number 14, in fact, has never hidden that he has been a Peñarol fan since childhood.

Tite and the board were also the target of criticism from Mauro Cezar

Even highlighting the performances of Arrascaeta and De La Cruz, Mauro Cezar Pereira also held Tite responsible for the elimination. The journalist pointed out that the coach is often the main target of criticism, but also mentioned the Flamengo board as part of the problem.

“Tite is largely responsible for the Libertadores, but this package has many characters. If once again, they just cut off the coach's head, without making vehement demands on the players, since the managers don't do it... Tite is one of those responsible, but this has been happening for years with several coaches. Players always go blank. There is a lack of charge”, stated MCP.

Finally, Mauro criticized the stance adopted by Tite during the game, stating that there was a lack of “blood in the eyes” to seek victory in Montevideo.

“It involves a lot of the coach, who has this good guy profile. Yesterday it was about playing with the knife between the teeth, blood in the eyes and beatings. That's how you play a finishing game like that. It doesn't finish. That's what's missing, coming together, being intense. This team is not like that”, he concluded.
