Flamengo's next opponent in Brazilian Championship, Vasco, advanced in negotiations and arranged for the hiring of coach Álvaro Pacheco, 52 years old. The Portuguese currently leads Vitória de Guimarães, from Portugal.

Álvaro was in Vasco's sights for more than a week, after the departure of Ramón Diaz, but the negotiations have evolved in recent days. The coach and his staff accepted a one-year contract, with plans to renew for another year.

For now, nothing has been signed yet. The parties are awaiting the drafting and signing of the contract to define the date of Álvaro's arrival in Rio de Janeiro - he was on the sidelines of the field this Saturday, in Vitória SC's 3-2 defeat to Braga, in the Portuguese Championship.

Vasco has been without a coach since April 27, when they announced the dismissal of Ramón Díaz and his coaching staff. The act took place immediately after the defeat suffered by Criciúma in São Januário, in a game valid for the fourth round of the Brazilian Championship.

The team has been led on an interim basis by Rafael Paiva. He is the one who will be leading the team this Sunday, in the match against Vitória, for the sixth round.

Álvaro Pacheco has played for teams such as Moreirense, Boavista, Vizela and Estoril, all from Portugal. He has been in charge of Vitória de Guimarães since last year and has a record of 18 wins, five draws and nine defeats in 32 games. Vasco x Flamengo takes place next Saturday, at 4pm.

Speculated as a possible reinforcement of Flamengo to fill the gap left by Pedro, striker Anthony Martial is free on the market, but has not played since December 9, 2023. On that occasion, Manchester United, his former club, entered the field to face Bournemouth and lost 3-0 in the Premier League. Martial was a starter and played for 56 minutes.

At the beginning of the year, the French striker suffered a groin injury that required surgery. Therefore, he was away for around 42 days, only returning in March. Even though there were three months left on his contract, Manchester United chose to let go of the player. Since then, Martial has been evaluating his next club and Flamengo is paying attention to his movements.

Just like Flamengo, Anthony Martial suffered from injuries in 2023/24. The star had several physical problems that kept him away from the field for a total of 60 days. Due to muscle pain, the player was not available for United in 12 matches last season.

Status of the deal between Flamengo and Anthony Martial

If the If Flamengo is really interested in the Frenchman, they will have to race against time and agree on the signing by Monday (9). Registration for free players is closing. According to Italian journalist Luca Bendoni, who works at the Gianluca Dimarzio portal, the deal could come to fruition soon.

Offered to Flamengo by his staff, Martial also had a drop in his personal numbers. In the 2022/23 season, the player scored six goals and provided two assists in the Premier League. In 2023/24, it was just one goal and no pass that resulted in the ball in the opponents' net.

The 'Classic of Millions' is about to happen, and expectations surrounding the clash between Flamengo and Vasco are high. In the first round, Flamengo defeated Vasco 6-1, a result that certainly haunts the Vasco fans. To prevent the scenario from repeating itself, Vasco intended to reinforce its squad, especially the defense. The negotiation for defender Ian Glavinovich, 22, from Newell’s Old Boys (ARG), was one of the club’s hopes. However, the outcome was frustrating for the Vasco fans. FLAMENGO HAS "GOOD NEWS" FOR CLASSIC

The problem arose with the deadline for the transfers from Brazil, which ended last Monday at midnight, Brasília time. The Argentine club did not send the necessary documents in time, and as a result, Vasco was unable to finalize the signing of Glavinovich. Without the desired reinforcement for the defense, the team will have to face Flamengo with the duo João Victor and Maicon.

While Vasco dealt with this frustration, Flamengo prepared for the classic with new features. Rubro-Negro will be able to count on two new reinforcements for the clash: Alex Sandro and Gonzalo Plata. Both players are already integrated into the team's training, although they have not yet officially debuted. Flamengo plans to use the break for the FIFA Date as an opportunity to give athletes the physical conditioning and game rhythm necessary for the continuation of the season.

On the other hand, Flamengo will have important absences. Michael, who was injured in the match against Bahia on August 28, is out of action and is only expected to return to the pitch in October. In addition to him, midfielder Carlos Alcaraz will also not be available, as he was sent off last Sunday, in the clash against Corinthians, and is serving an automatic suspension.
