On Thursday afternoon (5), Flamengo officially presented left-back Alex Sandro, at Ninho do Urubu. The signing of the experienced player aims to strengthen the red and black squad after the injury to Matías Viña, which will leave the team missing for a long period. In addition to Alex Sandro, Flamengo brought in other important reinforcements in this transfer window, such as Carlos Alcaraz, Gonzalo Plata and Michael, with the aim of maintaining a competitive level in all competitions.

FLAMENGO WILL NOT PRIORITIZE COMPETITIONS, SAYS SPINDEL

During the press conference that followed Alex Sandro's presentation, Bruno Spindel, Flamengo's executive director of football, spoke about the club's stance in relation to the tight calendar and the competitions remaining in the season. When asked whether Flamengo would prioritize any specific tournament, Spindel was emphatic in stating that the team will not make distinctions between competitions.

“Flamengo does not prioritize competitions. The serious injuries to Viña and Cebolinha alerted us to the stress that the calendar is imposing on our athletes. Our goal is to win all the tournaments we are playing in, and that means fighting for each title, whether in the Brazilian Championship, the Copa do Brasil or the Libertadores”, declared Spindel.

The director also highlighted the impact that the calendar and call-ups for the Copa América had on the physical wear and tear on the squad. According to Spindel, Flamengo had between five and six players called up, which required greater squad rotation and caused an accumulation of games for some athletes.

"People forget that during the Copa América, many of our players were with their teams. This increases the wear and tear on those who remain and also harms the squad's planning. In addition to the replacements we have already made, we brought in new athletes, such as Alex Sandro, to ensure that Flamengo remains competitive on all fronts", he explained. .

MORE OPTIONS FOR TITE WITH REINFORCEMENTS

Spindel mentioned that the recent signings aim to expand the options from coach Tite, allowing greater flexibility in the lineup and team rotation. "Our focus is to give Tite alternatives during the games, with a squad strong enough to compete in all competitions. We brought four reinforcements, and we believe that they will help us maintain the high level on the field", said the director.

The decision not to prioritize competitions, according to Spindel, is part of the club's institutional policy. “Flamengo’s premise is to compete on all fronts. The coach always puts the best team available on the field, taking into account the wear and tear of the players. The squad's commitment is total, even when functions on the field need to be adjusted due to the demands of the calendar,” he concluded.

CONMEBOL's 2026 World Cup qualifiers are underway , but Vinicius Junior's absence from Brazil's preliminary squad has drawn attention . Coach Carlo Ancelotti decided not to call up the striker for the matches against Chile and Bolivia, a move that has sparked discussions about squad planning and management.

WHY WAS VINICIUS JUNIOR SPARED?

According to Ancelotti, the decision is part of a strategy to rest and maintain physical health. Suspended against Chile due to a backlog of cards, Ancelotti felt he could leave the player out. The coach opted to extend the recovery period, given the former Flamengo player's fatigue throughout the season .

ATTACKER'S RECENT PERFORMANCE

After shining in 2023/24, winning titles with Real Madrid and being named Champions League Player of the Year, Vini Jr. started the 2025/26 season at a slower pace. He managed just one goal and one assist in six FIFA Club World Cup matches , a performance that raised questions about his fitness.

BRAZIL FACES CHALLENGES IN THE QUALIFIERS

The national team currently sits sixth in the qualifying rounds, with just two wins in six games. In addition to Vini Jr. 's absence, there is uncertainty over Neymar's call-up. As a result, Ancelotti has been relying on the depth of his squad , making room for new players to show their worth.

FOCUS ON THE FUTURE

Despite his current situation, Vini Jr. remains a key player for Brazil. The expectation is that, in peak form, the striker will play a key role in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup . Between club and country, managing his physical load is seen as essential for him to remain a protagonist on the international stage.

The club's president, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, spoke for the first time about the new master sponsor. The director celebrated the contract with Betano , announced this Monday, and emphasized the importance of the deal, which has become the largest in the history of Brazilian football. In an interview with Flamengo TV at Maracanã, Bap compared the club's trajectory to Real Madrid , citing its ownerless model and institutional strength.

"You have to have a lot of admiration for Real Madrid . In a world of SAFs, Real Madrid isn't a SAF; it's a club like Flamengo. It doesn't have an owner, just as Flamengo doesn't. And we have to recognize that it's the most successful club in the history of world football. Who else could we look up to? We want to be the Real Madrid of the Americas," he stated.

CONTRACT WITH BETANO

The new contract will last three years and four months , starting in September 2025, with a contribution of R$895 million. This amount is equivalent to €42 million per season, exceeding the amounts received by major European clubs, such as Atlético de Madrid, which earns €40 million annually from Riyadh Air. According to a survey by the English website The Sponsor, the contract would place Flamengo above 14 Premier League teams, behind only the "Big Six."

PARTNERSHIP PROVIDES FOR FRIENDLY MATCHES

The agreement also opens the possibility of friendlies with other clubs sponsored by the company, such as River Plate and Porto. According to Bap, the main challenge will be reconciling the teams' schedules , but both parties are willing to hold the matches.

In addition to men's soccer, Betano will be featured on the uniforms of the women's team, basketball team, volleyball team, and even the squad's travel gear. The first game with the brand on display will be on August 31st , against Grêmio, at Maracanã, in the Brazilian Championship.
