Flamengo hasn't won the Brazilian Championship for four years. The last time Mais Querido lifted the trophy was in 2020, when it was led by Rogério Ceni. However, the former goalkeeper barely left before the end of the tournament. According to Marcos Braz, Bahia's current coach resigned on two occasions.
" Rogério Ceni asked me twice to be fired before of being Brazilian champion. Twice in the locker room. Flamengo hadn't been champion of anything with him, we were in the Brasileirão, which was extended to the next year (2021)", said Marcos Braz, on the podcast 'Benja me Mucho', by communicator Benjamin Back.
"We had games against Ceará and Fluminense , I don't remember, we lose the game, in the room he says 'Marcos, you don't understand what I want to say, I think I'm getting in the way and I want to leave'. I said 'you're not leaving, our last game is against São. Paulo at Morumbi, let's be champions inside Morumbi, where you were champion all your life'', added Braz.
ROGÉRIO CENI KEPT IN POSITION
Vale remember that in rounds 28 and 29 of the 2020 Brasileirão, Flamengo suffered two consecutive defeats at Maracanã, to Fluminense and Ceará. With the sequence, the team remained far from the then leader São Paulo, occupying fourth place. Thus, Rogério Ceni suffered a lot of pressure from the press and journalists, but Braz kept him in office.
Soon afterwards, Marcos Braz's statement came true. In the penultimate round, Internacional visited Mais Querido and was a title winner with a duel in advance. The team from Rio Grande do Sul even took the lead, with Edenílson. However, Arrascaeta and Gabigolturned the confrontation around and left Rubro-Negro in the clear.
Desse Thus, for the penultimate round, Mais Querido arrived with two points ahead of Internacional. The team from Rio Grande do Sul faltered at home and only drew with Corinthians. Flamengo lifted the cup, despite the defeat to São Paulo.
