The Copa América is still far away, however, Flamengo is already worried about running out of full-backs during the competition. Guilhermo Varela and Matías Viña are certain names in the Uruguayan National Team, and Ayrton Lucas was on Dorival's list. Wesley is already injured.

However, despite the concern about being without full-backs, Marcos Braz stated during a press conference this past Friday (12), that Flamengo does not intend to bring in new players for the position or for any other due to the Copa América.

“There was no movement from Flamengoand there was also no request from Tite at first to replace it within this situation. Because there's no point in bringing the player because I'll have to pay attention to whether he's a member of the national team or not. If it is a national team, we will have the same problem, he is called up and I am left without the player. There’s no point”, complained the vice-president of Football.

MANAGER HIGHLIGHTS THAT THERE WILL BE NO HIRING JUST TO REPLACE PLAYERS

Marcos Braz also highlighted that Mais Querido cannot hire an athlete with the prospect of using him only during the Copa América competition. Furthermore, the director states that “what is being imposed on Flamengo is for the club to make signings on another shelf, and Flamengo will not do so”.

“You cannot bring one player just for ten games. When Flamengo brings in a player it has to either pay for the player or sign a long contract with the player. I sign the player, and then when the players who went to the national team return, do I have 40 players here? Then they start to bother, saying that they hired a lot of people, there are a lot of people. There aren't many people. The situation with the calendar makes us take some risks, which are these,” he said.

FOCUS ON THE BRASILEIRÃO’S DEBUT

This way, while the Copa América doesn’t arrive, Tite takes the opportunity to use your full-backs and test them in their respective positions. Flamengo faces Atlético GO this Sunday afternoon (14), at 4pm, at the Serra Dourada Stadium.

Forward Petterson had his visa regularized and leaves this Thursday (25) for Portugal. Flamengo loaned the 20-year-old player to Estrela Amadora, a team in Portugal's first division. The loan contract between the Portuguese club and Mengão runs until June 2025.

If Estrela Amadora chooses to buy the player, they will have to pay the amount of €750,000 (R$4.4 million ) for 60% of Petterson's economic rights. The information is from Flazoeiro. With 9 goals in 30 games in the 2023 season, the player won three titles in Mengão's youth categories: the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Copa do Brasil under-17, both in 2021, and the Brasileirão Under-20 in 2023. After a During his loan period at Athletico Paranaense, Petterson packed his bags for Portugal.

At the Paraná club, he debuted with a goal, but an act of indiscipline caused him to be removed and no longer play. He even had a new loan to Avaí, which didn't happen. Now he will have another chance to prove himself.

About Estrela Amadora, Petterson's new club

The club finished the last season of the Portuguese League in 14th place, with seven wins, 15 defeats and 12 draws. In the League Cup, the team was eliminated in the first round; in the Portuguese Cup, Estrela Amadora fell through in the fourth round.

The result in the Portuguese Championship, however, was considered satisfactory. This is because the team returned to compete in the local elite after 15 years. The objective was maintenance.

In the new team, Petterson can expect to find many Brazilians among his teammates. The club has names like André Luiz and Daniel Cabral (both ex-Flamengo), Bruno Brígido (ex-Criciúma) and Léo Jabá (ex-Corinthians). Currently the club plays in the pre-season of European football.

Star of Flamengo, midfielder De La Cruz spoke for the first time after the end of the Copa América. Last Monday (15), Rubro-Negro's number 18 sent a message to the Uruguayans praising the third place achieved. Nico also projected a return to the competition and mentioned Luis Suárez, who does not guarantee that he will remain in the Uruguayan National Team.

“Let's try again! Thank you for your support during this Copa América. We were so excited, like all the Uruguayan people, to win the cup and we took third place. Value what you have achieved and come back stronger for what is to come. Team that unites us. You are huge, Luis Alberto (Suárez). Lucky you are Uruguayan”, wrote De La Cruz in a post on social media.

DE LA CRUZ’S PERFORMANCE IN THE CUP AMERICA

De La Cruz played five of the six matches in which the Uruguay played in this year's Copa América, starting four. Thus, the midfielder from Mais Querido provided assists in the 3-1 victory over Panama and 5-0 against Bolivia. Remembering that Nico did not enter the field to compete for third place, as he was serving a suspension.

DE LA CRUZ AND LUIS SUÁREZ IN URUGUAY

As highlighted in the publication, De La Cruz is a great admirer of Luis Suárez. The national idol received special affection from the red and black number 18 as he has an uncertain future in the Uruguayan National Team. At 37 years old, the center forward with spells at Liverpool and Barcelona does not rule out that it could be a farewell to Celeste.

De La Cruz and Suárez played around 20 matches for Uruguay together. Thus, there are ten wins, four draws and six defeats, with one goal scored by the Flamengo and seven for the center forward.
