On the night of this Friday (10), the clubs from Series A and B of the Brazilian Championship launched a joint note against amendment no. 38-U, of bill no. 3.626/2023, approved by the Commission of Sports of the Federal Senate, which provides for fixed-odd bets, the so-called "bets", on football.
This decision by the Senate Sports Commission threatens the biggest sponsorship in Flamengo's history. If confirmed by the plenary and becomes law, the amendment approved this Friday (10) will prohibit betting houses from sponsoring football clubs.
Therefore, the contract will cost at least R$90 million from Flamengo with PixBet, which could reach R$170 million if the club chooses to change the company's brand from the omoplata to the position of master sponsor in January, would be invalidated due to the possible new law.
< b>OFFICIAL NOTE FROM THE CLUBSIt is worth remembering that bookmakers are the biggest sponsors of Brazilian clubs today. Therefore, all Serie A and B clubs released a joint note on Friday night (10), expressing concern about the Sports Commission's decision.
“The complete ban suggested by the Sports Commission Sport, in addition to being fruitless for the purpose for which it is proposed and deviating from the purpose of regulating the fixed-odd betting modality, would represent frontal and irreparable damage to the main current source of revenue for Brazilian football, in addition to the risk of interfering with contracts in force”, says the note.
EX - FLAMENGO ATHLETES VOTED AGAINST THE AMENDMENTThe amendment prohibits the placement of betting house advertisements in mass media between 6am and 10:59pm and in arenas of any sporting discipline. They also prohibit them from sponsoring teams, athletes, former athletes, referees, members of the technical committee and championships.
Among the senators who voted in favor of the amendment is Carlos Portinho (PL - RJ), rapporteur of the SAFs Law and that at the beginning of this year he was invited by Flamengo to give a lecture on the topic. Senators Romário (PL - RJ) and Leila Barros (PDT - DF), former Rubro Negro athletes, also voted against the amendment.
The teams play the first game of the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
