An unknown is coming! From talented to "shit"! Opinions about Michael Johnston are very divided between Celtic and West Bromwich fans, clubs defended by the player who is close to joining Flamengo.
The amount of praise for the athlete's talent is striking, despite the fact that he has not exploded anywhere . Mengão fans are suspicious of the winger's numbers, who, last season, only scored three goals and had five assists in 40 games in the English second division.
And the distrust is proven when we look at the opinions of those who are used to seeing him play. It is almost a consensus that the talent is there, but Michael Johnston, now at Flamengo , has difficulty establishing himself as a great player.
Celtic fans are a little more affectionate. This is because the Scottish club revealed the Irish striker. Naturally, the "good luck" wishes are greater. Just as the Nation supports its youngsters, the same happens there.
The comments, however, consist of fans feeling sorry for not seeing Michael Johnston play at a high level in Europe. They recognize his talent and are puzzled as to why he has not managed to shine. But they see his move to Flamengo as a good move, which could change his career if he manages to reach his peak.
The English fans of West Bromwich, on the other hand, are harsher on the player. There is no emotional attachment, but the English do not deny that the talent is there either. But, strangely, some opinions say that, while Michael Johnston is talented, he is "shit". The comments were seen in publications by European profiles that cover the respective teams about Johnston's arrival at Flamengo.
"He's extremely talented and he's a piece of shit. He's legitimately extremely talented. He's got tremendous feet and can be very incisive. However, he's got a tiny pea heart and has never really done or achieved anything, despite walking around like a world champion. He could be a hero or a nobody," Edgar analyzes.
"An absolute paradox of a player... He has all the skills but lacks the end product. Either he will thrive and become a star for them, or he will fail and be sent down to the Bolivian third division," says one Englishman.
"A flash in the pan. Had half a dozen good games when he was on loan. Like most in this squad, I was flattered to have been a dud last season. Great move all round. I hope a few more come out," Dan fumes.
Mengão player received an offer from Aston Villa after being cleared of match-fixing charges and Hammers make decision

Former Flamengo player Lucas Paquetá's celebration against Nottingham Forest, with a mock rejection of a call and a kiss on the crest, went beyond the euphoria of the goal. The gesture reflected the outcome of a negotiation: West Ham rejected Aston Villa's terms and decided to keep the midfielder.
The Birmingham club offered £47 million (R$347 million), but in installments: an initial loan, an obligation to buy after one year, and additional bonuses . The Hammers didn't like this format, and they're demanding around £50 million (R$369 million) to release the player.
Given the uncertainty, there was a possibility that Paquetá would remain in London until the window closed , this Monday (1st), for medical exams and bureaucratic procedures. However, the Brazilian boarded the plane to Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.
West Ham's number 10 is expected this Monday at Granja Comary in Teresópolis to report to Carlo Ancelotti. This will be his first call-up in 2025, after absences in March under Dorival Júnior and in June under the Italian coach. Paquetá had been investigated for alleged involvement in betting but was recently acquitted.
Having just turned 28, the Flamengo youth product remains highly valued in the European market and is expected to be a target for clubs again in the January window . At the start of the season, he scored three goals in four appearances for West Ham, all of which came in the Hammers' last three games.
The Brazilian National Team begins training this Monday at Granja Comary, with an eye on the last two rounds of the Qualifiers . On Thursday (4), they face Chile at Maracanã, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time). On the 9th, they face Bolivia, at 8:30 pm, in El Alto, at an altitude of 4,100 meters.
After a sequence of games since the Club World Cup, the Mengão squad will finally have consecutive days to rest due to the national team games.

Flamengo drew 1-1 with Grêmio last Sunday (31), at Maracanã, in the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship. After the match, which had a full house, the red-black squad was given four days of rest .
The break is due to the FIFA Date, which starts this Monday (1st). During the period, the national calendar will be paralyzed for the dispute of another round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The group led by Filipe Luís will return on Friday (5), at Ninho do Urubu, to resume preparation for the rest of the season.
Rubro-Negro only took the lead in the second half, with a goal from Arrascaeta, following an assist from Pedro. Grêmio, however, equalized with a hotly contested penalty from the Mais Querido side , but it was converted by goalkeeper Thiago Volpi.
Six Flamengo athletes were called up by their national teams:
September 4th (Thursday)
September 8th (Monday)
Filipe Luís's team returns to action on September 14th, against Juventude, at Alfredo Jaconi Stadium, at 4 pm (Brasília time), for the 23rd round of the Brasileirão. Despite the setback, Mengão remains top of the Brasileirão with 47 points . Palmeiras, who tied with Corinthians, dropped to third place with 43. Cruzeiro, with 44, took over second place.
Mengão drew 1-1 with Tricolor at Maracanã and the player returned to the starting lineup after a long period out of the coach's starting 11.

After the 1-1 draw with Grêmio , this Sunday (31), at Maracanã, for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship, Filipe Luís explained the departure of Nicolás De La Cruz during the match . The coach revealed that the midfielder himself asked to be substituted.
Filipe Luís on Flamengo's De La Cruz: "He had a good training session and is back in good shape"
"He ( De La Cruz ) asked to be substituted. He recovered, had a good training session, and is back in good shape. He brings a lot of dynamism to our midfield, both in attack and defense . He's one of the pillars of the team, and I'm very happy to have him back," said the coach.
"By the time he left, we were already suffering, struggling to play. Not because of his departure per se, but because of the context of the game , where we were trying more to defend the result than maintain momentum. We ended up suffering even more," concluded Filipe Luís.
Since arriving at Flamengo , De La Cruz has missed 34 matches . The Uruguayan even became the subject of controversy after a former club doctor mentioned, in a WhatsApp group, the existence of an alleged chronic injury.
With the Uruguayan available again, Flamengo returns to the field only on September 14th due to the break for the FIFA Date , against Juventude, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at the Alfredo Jaconi stadium, for the 23rd round of the Brasileirão. With the draw, Mengão remains in the lead of the Brasileirão, but saw the advantage over Cruzeiro drop to just three points, but with a game less than Raposa.
