Behind the scenes at Flamengo continues to be busy due to the presidential elections that will take place at the end of this year. This Thursday (05), Maurício Gomes de Mattos officially launched his candidacy, with the support of Eduardo Bandeira de Mello. During the event, the former president of Flamengo harshly criticized the current management, addressing issues such as the SAF (Sociedade Anônima de Futebol) and the distancing of fans.

“Mainly in the contribution of resources made by clubs who organized themselves as SAF. A solution that doesn't work for Flamengo, but that guarantees some opponents a moment or a bubble, perhaps, of competitiveness. With these resources that Flamengo generates today autonomously and organically, no other club in Brazil is able to do the same” , said the former President of the club.

Bandeira de Mello, alongside Maurício Gomes de Mattos, strongly criticized the proposal to implement the SAF in Flamengo. This is because Rodolfo Landim has already mentioned the possibility of discussing and voting on the adoption of this model at the club.

“We are able to face these challenges, but as long as we return to good governance and professionalism practices. We have human capital, and that is what you will see in the next three years. On the other hand, it is essential that Flamengo gets closer to its main asset, which is its fans, the main reason for its greatness. Treat fans with respect and make them represent a vector for the recovery of our image, growth and affirmation”, concludes Bandeira de Mello.

Last Tuesday, the candidate for re-election for mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, denied the journalist Ancelmo Gois, from Globo. In a post on Instagram, the mayor informed that the city hall will be responsible for removing the megastructure on the gas meter site, different from what was reported. Furthermore, he guaranteed that Flamengo will have its new stadium, with the best conditions and security.

The news published by Ancelmo informs that Flamengo would have to pay R$100 million to remove a large gas structure present on land acquired by the club, which is owned by CEG and CEG-Rio, which are companies that are part of the gas concessionaire Naturgy.

According to the article, the companies were informed that Flamengo is the responsible for bearing the expenses, as provided for in one of the annexes to the land purchase and transfer contract. The clause, however, does not have a specified limit.

Eduardo Paes guarantees that the removal is the responsibility of Rio's city hall.

Paes stated that the values for the transfer of the structure are different from what was pointed out in the article by Ancelmo Gois. Furthermore, it exempted Flamengo from any responsibility, and that the city hall has been planning to remove it for years.

“They are making me defend @flamengo more than I would like: let it be clear that this is not the The cost of this transfer and when it happens will be the responsibility of the city of Rio, which knows that this structure cannot be in an area that is already receiving so many residential buildings. It's been in our plans for a long time! Flamengo will have its new stadium there in the gasometer with all the quality and safety that the region demands and deserves. Period!”, published the mayor.

Just over six thousand Flamengo members will choose the new president for the 2025-2027 three-year period on December 9th. The electoral college will be the smallest since the 2012 election, when Eduardo Bandeira de Mello beat Patrícia Amorim, who was seeking re-election.

The club's first list showed that 6.2 thousand voters are eligible to vote in the Gávea, marking the second consecutive drop in the electoral college since 2018, when Rodolfo Landim defeated Ricardo Lomba, the candidate supported by Bandeira. In that election, 8,061 members were eligible, and the turnout rate was approximately 37%. (The complete numbers are below).

In Landim's reelection, the impact of the pandemic was visible, with a reduction in both the number of voters and participation on election day: 6,898 voters were registered, but only 2,011 attended (29% participation).
