The current season is not over yet, but Flamengo is already thinking about the future. This is because Gabigol, who has been at Flamengo since 2019, is about to extend his contract with Rubro-Negro for another four years, which means that his contract as a striker will extend until December 2028.

Despite his current contract being valid until 2024, the club chose to bring forward the renewal and proposed a salary increase, in addition to bonuses for achieving goals, for the player who wears the number 10 shirt. This news was released by journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira.< /p>

Due to the terms of his current contract, Gabigol would have the possibility of signing a pre-agreement with another team free of charge in July 2024. Concerned about avoiding the free departure of his idol , Flamengo chose to bring negotiations forward and will probably finalize the contract extension with the striker until the end of 2028 in the coming days.

Gabigol represented an investment of 17 million euros, the equivalent of around R$78 million at the exchange rate at that time, for Flamengo. The striker joined the club in 2019 on loan from Inter Milan (Italy). Due to his exceptional performance that year, which culminated in winning the Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores da América, Flamengo chose to acquire 90% of the goalscorer's rights in 2020.

Despite having a contract valid until December 2024, the signing of Gabigol's new agreement would effectively "annul" the current contract, and the new terms would become valid from 2024, valid until December 2028. With the imminent renewal, the striker will experience a significant salary increase, going from the range of one million to two million, as reported by journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. Check it out:

"The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."
