Gabigol is going through a turbulent time at Flamengo. A reserve and with few goals in recent months, the striker was removed by the club after controversy over contract renewal negotiations. Given all the problems, the player's market value fell by more than R$100 million in two years.
According to the website Transfermarket, which specializes in the football market, Gabigol is currently valued at € 8 million (around R$48 million). This is the lowest value since 2018, when he played for Santos.
Two years ago, in the middle of 2022, the striker was valued at €26 million (around R$155 million). The drop in market value, therefore, was 70% in 24 months.
The recent devaluation occurred for two main reasons: the drop in performance on the field and older age. The approaching end of the contract with Flamengo does not interfere with the methodology adopted by Transfermarkt.
Gabigol and Flamengo are at an impasse in negotiations to renew the contract. The striker refused the club's last offer, and both parties do not see the idol's stay with the same optimism as they did in the past.
Gabigol's manager even considers the possibility of the striker's immediate departure. The current contract is valid until the end of this year, but the staff is working on the hypothesis that the player will find a new club in the mid-year window, which opens on July 10th.
