One draw and two injuries, this was Flamengo's result against Palmeiras, last Sunday (11), at Maracanã. Rubro-Negro lost Matías Viña and Everton Cebolinha, the latter, in fact, no longer plays for the Rio club this season and has an estimated recovery period of between four and six months.

Given this scenario, Flamengo is evaluating the possibility of repatriating Michael. The information was initially brought by Paparazzo Rubro-Negro and confirmed by GOAL. Furthermore, the board does not rule out hiring another left-back, depending on how long Viña will be out.

Would Michael's cost be a problem?

In recent months, Cruzeiro and Corinthians tried to sign Michael, but were faced with the player's high prices. The striker, who can terminate his contract with Al Hilal this summer (he only has a contract until January 2025), asks for around 6 to 7 million euros in gloves, in addition to the salary considered high.

The relationship between Flamengo and Michael, however, could be an asset for the red-black board to reduce the values. The striker has never hidden that he prioritizes the Rio team in Brazilian football and that he owes a debt of gratitude, after having gone through a difficult depression at the beginning of his journey at the club.

Other names on the radar

Michael is not the only player in this position on Flamengo's radar. The club's scout has a list with some names that could be an option. It is worth highlighting that the sector is considered important for coach Tite and today only Bruno Henrique is available.

Luiz Araujo, it has been improvised there, but the technical committee understands that it is not ideal, a since the player loses his main characteristic and had excellent performances on the right side.

Left-back?

Flamengo is still evaluating the severity of Matías Viña's injury. The player had a confirmed meniscus injury and will undergo surgery. The club's medical department is still awaiting further tests to find out whether there was ligament damage. The board, however, is debating the possibility of bringing in a loan option or someone who is free on the market.

"Respect is the feeling..." Flamengo has Tite's words echoed behind the scenes with the fans

In an interview given after the defeat of Flamengoto Peñarol, 1-0, coach Tite was direct in responding to the boos received by the fans. The statement, marked by a frank tone, exposed the coach's pragmatic vision in relation to demanding fans and the pressure for results. “I respect the fans’ feelings. Of course I feel that (the boos), I'm human”, said Tite, recognizing the fans' frustration in the face of the setback.

Tite's speech reveals that he understands the role of fans as a fundamental part in the context of a club, especially in a team of great expression like Flamengo. By mentioning that the boos affect him as a human being, the coach demonstrates empathy, but does not fail to highlight that the only way to reverse this situation is with achievements on the field. “It can only be reversed in one way”, pointed out the coach.

THE MISTAKE THAT COSTED EXTREMELY DEARLY

The response reflects the experience of Titein dealing with pressure who follows the command of great teams in Brazilian football. With successful spells at clubs such as Corinthians, Grêmio and the Brazilian national team itself, the coach has a track record that puts him in a position to understand, perhaps like few others, the relationship between performance on the field and fans' expectations. For him, this connection is clear: “Do you know how to win fans? Do you know how I won over the fans of the other clubs I played for? Win an important title”, he declared.

The phrase highlights the centrality of titles in football, especially in mass clubs like Flamengo. In Brazil, the culture of results is intense, and Tite recognizes that fans have a limited tolerance for negative results. Winning titles, for him, is the key to gaining the support of the fans, and anything other than that results in discontent: “If not, bye.”

This last part of Tite's speech summarizes the characteristic impatience of demanding fans like Flamengo. The coach makes it clear that, without obtaining relevant trophies, the relationship with the fans deteriorates quickly. The pressure is constant and is part of the daily life of those who take on the leadership of top teams. Tite seems, however, to be aware of this scenario and how it needs to be faced.

Tite's statement came after a delicate moment for Flamengo. The defeat to Peñarol, at home, in a group stage match of the Copa Libertadores, raised alarm bells for fans and the coaching staff. Flamengo had high expectations for the season, especially after major reinforcements and the arrival of Tite, a coach with wide recognition on the national and international scene.

The pressure on Flamengo is nothing new. The club, which has one of the biggest fans in the world, is known for its high expectations for titles. The expensive squad, made up of renowned players, also increases this demand. Each stumble is widely covered by the media and amplifies the dissatisfaction of part of the fans, who demand immediate results.

CAN IT GO BAD AT THE MOMENT?

The Copa Libertadores, in particular, has a important meaning for Flamengo and its fans. The continental tournament is seen as one of the club's main objectives each season. Any result other than victory can generate dissatisfaction and pressure on the technical committee, as occurred after the setback against Peñarol.

In this context, Tite's speech not only recognizes the fans' dissatisfaction, but also is realistic in relation to what is expected from a club like Flamengo. The demand for titles is part of the package when taking over a club of this size, and the coach seems to be aware of this when he points out that he will only be able to win the support of the fans with significant victories.

The injury to Everton Cebolinha took the striker out of the season. However, the six-month recovery time could be shortened, and he could return to action in December. The main competitions will have already ended, but the athlete will be able to return to do pre-season at the beginning of the year easily.

This is because Everton Cebolinha has made great progress in treating his injury. According to journalist Venê Casagrande, the recovery from the Achilles tendon rupture, which occurred on August 11, has been so quick that the player could be released at the end of the year.

Progression is quickly, and Cebolinha should be released by the Medical Department ahead of schedule, which would be in mid-February. However, it is unlikely that Cebolinha will play in 2024 and should only return next year, as he will no longer need to bring forward his return with the competitions already decided.

The Brasileirão ends at the beginning of the month of December, and at most, Cebolinha would have three rounds to play until the 8th, against Internacional, Criciúma and Vitória.

Flamengo adds absences

In addition of Everton Cebolinha, the club has other problems. Left-back Matías Viña and center forward Pedro will also only return in 2025, missing the final stretch of the 2024 season. Furthermore, the team has other problems.

Luiz Araújo and Michael join the Medical Department, but they're still coming back this year. However, for the final part of the season, missing important games in the Libertadores and Copa do Brasil, for example.

For Flamengo x Peñarol, in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores, at Maracanã, Tite also has Gabigol as a casualty, spared after feeling pain against Vasco. The game takes place this Thursday (19th), at 7pm (Brasília time).
