0Rebeca Andrade, the Brazilian athlete with the most medals in the history of the Olympics, will receive R$826,000 as an award for the individual gold, two individual silvers and one team bronze.
Of the total of the bonus that the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) will grant her for the medals, Rebeca will need to pay R$ 227,150 to the Federal Revenue, according to the Personal Income Tax table for 2025 (base year 2024). After being taxed, the athlete will receive R$ 598,850.
The rate that applies to the amount received by the athletes will be R$ 27.5%, this is because all COB prizes (see table below) are above the range of R$ 55,976.16 (year-to-date).
This Monday (5), federal deputy Luiz Lima (PL-RJ) presented a bill so that athletes who winning medals in the Olympic Games are exempt from income tax on the bonus paid by the COB, the federal government or other bodies.
For Johnny Mendes, professor at ESEG, Faculdade do Grupo Stage, the impact of a possible exemption is very small. He believes that, from a fiscal point of view, this measure does not hinder the government from pursuing an improvement in public accounts.
